For your touring bike, what do you consider your ideal effective top tube length and how far outside of it will you go?

I was fitted for my custom Waterford 1900 and they built my bike with an ETT of 58cm. I prefer my 56cm ETT Thorn Nomad but will ride either size and in fact had Bike Friday build my New World Tourist with a VTT of 58cm.

So what are you at? What's your touring comfort range? Spot on a certain length?

On the off chance someone tuned in doesn't know how to measure a bike's ETT, here's an example photo:

Start at the center of the head tube and measure back horizontally to the centerline of the seat tube if it were to extend up that far. If your bike has a horizontal top tube then you are measuring the actual TT length.

How valuable is an ETT measurement when it doesn't factor in setback or straight seat post, or stem length? Just curious, I'm not an expert on sizing at all.

It's a baseline to make minor adjustments from.
