Introductions - Hello From Buffalo!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi, my name is Doug. I'm in Tonawanda, NY which is just north of Buffalo. I got back into riding about 4 years ago. I drifted away with the birth of my first child 17 years ago. Before Matthew came along, I did mostly recreational riding. Since I've been back, I've been commuting regularly. Round trip is 24 miles in the summer, and 17miles in the winter. I've set a goal for myself to ride in the 100mile Tour de Cure this summer. It'll probably take me at least 5 - 6 hours, but its for a great cause!
My "commuter" is a 4 year old diamond back, and I have an older Cannondale for longer rides.
I found this site a few nights ago while I was searching for ideas on what to do about my glasses fogging up. I was amazed to see that the shaving cream trick does work!

Hello Doug, there are quite a few members from around that area. You might want to have a look at the regional forums for the Northeast (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=232) forum.
Good luck on the Tour de Cure, and Welcome to BF!

My grandparents used to live on N. Bailey Ave. :) Aren't you guys up to you eyeballs in snow? Welcome!

It's not too bad in northern Erie county. I pass N. Bailey on my way down Sheridan. The City and the towns south of the City have much more than I do. Thankfully no where near the amount that the folks in Oswego County have. I can't imagine 11 feet of snow in one week!

When my parents first considered leaving England and emigrating to the United States, our sponsor (my great uncle) was living in Syracuse. My father, who had been a pilot in the RAF and had done his first solo in Hamilton, Ontario, remembered those winters and turned down Uncle Albert flat.
It wasn't until Uncle Albert had moved to Sunny Southern California Where The Streets Are Paved With Gold that my parents reconsidered...:D .
