Road Cycling - New bike (giant ocr-1)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hi,
I am looking to buy my first road bike. It is mainly for getting around and touring (supported) but it would be good if it has the possibility of club riding / racing (very multi-purpose bike!).
I came across a new Giant OCR-1 for $950. My questions are: does anyone have an opinoin on this particular bike? And what should I look for on my test rides, ie. how do I know if it fits me?
Thanks for any help.
One thing to be careful of is the recall of the ocr 1 and the tcr's because of a problem with the carbon forks on some of the bikes actually breaking (not a pleasant picture, especially if going about 40mph downhill). I can't give you a specific site to go to, but you shouldn't have much of a problem finding one with your internet browser. I have a Giant ocr 3 and absolutely love it. I've gotten more compliments on my bike than anything else I've ever owned. Good luck!

I had an OCR 2 (same frame different fork) till I got creamed by a truck. The frame actually survived but the rest of it was shot.
I liked the feel of the frame but if you go to any review pages like www.roadbikereviews.com you will see a few comments about a hard to trace squeak. I had it too and it would come and go which is part of why it was so hard to trace the source. Other than that I loved that bike. you can't go wrong with 105. I almost went with the OCR 1 for my replacement but went with a Fuji Roubaix instead.
Good luck.

Is the ride harsh with the alumininum frame? Do you think it's a good bike for commuting?
Thanks!

I've done a 63 mile charity ride and a 145 mile charity ride as well as numerous shorter rides. I don't find the ride harsh at all. Of course, it's the first road bike I've ridden in about 20 years, so my frame of reference (no pun intended) is limited.

I have ridden a TCR for the last four years and would not even think of changing it for anything different, as for the carbon forks, no problem to speak of. I have a friend who owns an OCR and he is looking to change to a TCR, but not because the bike is bad, he just wants the kudos of owning a TCR. The OCR is a good bike that is getting rave reviews here in the UK, I say go for it.:D

i too own an ocr 2 and love it. had many compliments on the bike itself, and as far as the ride, well, it is butter. dont know anything about the carbon fork problem on the ocr 1, but hopefully it was an isolated thing. you cant go wrong with the ocr. later.

The tyre clearance may be quite tight for some applications. If you need to fit fenders or a luggage rack for commuting/touring or winter training, does the frame have clearance and threaded eyelets. You can get racing style bikes which do (ie more sporty than proper touring bikes).
