Southern California - Met 2 Tour De France riders On SART Ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well actually at the beach stop. Gina and I rode our tandem today. Met a few friends at the rest stop where we hung out. First guy comes up. Same guy we met last time. Said he has been in The TDF a couple of times. Said his name was Drew12. I didn't really believe him but Gina gives him the benefit of the doubt.

So then the second guy comes up and starts asking questions about Drew's TDF bike. Says he likes it then we get a glance at his bike. Really nice Madone. He said he rode for Trek so I thought maybe a bike shop. Then he starts talking about how they mold his seat to match his anatomy. I said ,"wow, they spoil you guys". Then he said with what he does, they deserve it. I thought he was a shop worker. Then he said,"well yeah, I've been in the TDF 8 times". I think we all heard but I don't think it registered with any of us. Then someone asked, "what?". Then he introduced himself as Shamus Kelly (sp?). He hung around for a bit and talked about bikes. Was a real cool guy. Said it was his last TDF this year, his 9th. We wished him luck and he was off. Beautiful Madone he had. Lucky I wasn't on my Cannondale, cause I would have kicked his azz!:p

Drew on the left and Mr. Kelly on the right. I hope one of these guys is really a TDF rider!:D

Why my wife is not allowed to be in charge of the camera! I gave her the camera. I said get some shots of the tandem. Maybe a side view, along the side of the frame, our legs, over the shoulder shot, anything that shows the tandem, be creative. This is the best shot out of 20! ...I think she just wants the captain's seat!

Plus...if this year's his last, why isn't he in Europe? Oh...training for TofC? Why isn't he up in San Fran getting ready? Why isn't he in his team's colors?

Eeehhhnnn I don't think so.

Sham Kelly? Never got the recognition of brother Sean, but I feel that he was the more talented rider. He's still out there on the boardwalk while Sean is where??

SSHHH, Don't tell Trek!

Shamus Kelly was on a Madone 5.9, with all the sticker bling you'd ever want ot see.
Nice enough guy, said he's beten Lance twice! Can't find didly either....

Good to see Beanz and Gina, and the tandem.. Gina let slip in a wisper how she just sits back
and lets beanz do all the work. :D

Are you sure he wasn't a writer, instead of a rider?

I can see how "rider" and "writer" can sound similar with an Irish accent.
