I bought an L&M ARC Li-ion light for my MTB two weeks ago, in fact, 2 days before I got Bronchitis etc, so I haven't been able to ride...

The Bike is waiting patiently in the Garage, so I've been turning the light on at times (double click) but it doesn't always ignite on the first attempt, in fact, rarely does it do so..

Does anyone have one of these and have the same problem?

I'm going out for a ride tomorrow (roadbike) my first time back on the bike for two weeks (since the ride with you Guys) and Monday will be my first Day back to the Commute on the MTB..so I don't wanna get stuck at w**k on a dark night :(

I have had mine for 2 years with no firing issues.. You are aware that when you run it, it needs to cool before you can refire the light up. I remember that cool down period is approx 5 minutes. Is your issue on initial firing of the light?

Here is L&M's info:

Don't turn in on and off for no reason. That will shorten your bulb life.

Do you let it cool down long enough before trying to light it again? Are you sure it is a double click?

Also don't leave it on without the bike moving. It needs air flowing over it to stay cool. If it has built in thermal protection it may shut off when too hot. And then you may have to reset it somehow. Check the instructions.

Yeah most arc lamps don't have hot restrike... HR lamps are a lot of money.:(

Try holding down the switch for like 5 seconds then doing a double click. Also, like others said, avoid striking the lamp on and off, every time you turn it on, the life shortens.

Otherwise, I've never heard of this problem before without there being a problem either in the electronics or the bulb itself. The switch looks sealed so its unlikely anything got in there.

Thanks for all the replies Guys...
What happens is, I double click..the green led lights up in the switch but the light doesn't ignite...so I hold the switch in until it turns off...I wait a few seconds and try again...

If the Bulb ignites I let it burn for about 10 seconds then turn it off...
The reason I keep trying it is because it wouldn't ignite after I charged the Battery overnight the Day I got it, otherwise I wouldn't be trying to light it all the time...well, on a Daily basis when I think about it....

Having said that, I did manage to get it to fire up the night after I got it and took the Bike for a spin around our well lit neighborhood...that light is absolutely amazing!!

I'll try slvoid's suggestion of holding the switch in for 5 seconds before double clicking next time...

Thanks again everyone!

Does that light shut itself off if it gets too hot?

Yeah, the bulb usually loses power when the case and board melt down.
