Introductions - New Guy From Illinios Flatlands

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello. My name is Fred and I just recently purchased a K2 Big Easy Deuce to use for some fairly tame riding when the weather breaks. I added a Cloud 9, 11 inch wide seat to it just to make it a little more comfy. I was needing an enjoyable source of cardio exercise and settled on a bicycle for this purpose. I have already spent some time with the Clydesdales as that would be the group I probably fit best with. I'm not a serious cyclist and don't have any intention to become one. I'm already into old Vespas and other scooters up to my eyeballs, another obsession isn't really needed at this time. I'm just looking for some enjoyable cruising around that also gives me some exercise.
I'm retired and play golf daily (weather permitting) with a great group of guys. One might think that would provide enough activity, but the entire group rides and walkers tend to foul things up pace-wise. So I ride too.
I am very glad to have found this forum and have already learned some very helpful things.
Looking forward to Summer
Fred

Hello Fred, glad to see that you have found your way around already!
Is the avatar of you on a Vespa? That's quite nice...
Welcome to BF!

I'm over here in Macomb, home of Western Illinois University, and the WIU Golf Course.

I know the area well. I just finished my degree at WIU last May. In season there is a Saturday morning ride that begins around 0700 from the KMART parking lot. There are two groups that go out, one is shorter and slow and the other is a bit longer and faster.
We ride quite a bit over this way, but there are only three of us here.

Thanks for letting me know about the K-Mart groups. I'd most likely be in the slower and shorter bunch.
I have not ridden for 25 years or so and there have been many negative changes to my body in that time. I don't know how this is going to work out, but I'm anxious to get started.
Hi Fred. I live in central Utah now, but know Macomb well. I used to live in Springfield, and later when living near Keokuk and working as a freelance writer, I visited the WIU library about once every two weeks. This was during the early '90s (pre-internet), when you actually had to leave home to search out information ;) .
Nice to meet you. Hope to (virtually) talk to you again soon.
