bigger bag. xl baileyworks here, using the straps to hold two vertically stacked 24-packs works great. part of me wonders if i could get a third with those compression straps....i've carried other **** with them.

now that i think of it, i've never tried three stacked upright in the bag, but i'm starting to think that if the compression straps worked, i could maybe get 4 in it. i should test these theories some weekend.

I'm so glad you've posted this because I was going to post the same question yesterday. I own no car and PA's beer laws are ridiculous. You can buy entire cases for twice the price of the same beer as a 6-pack here because of the stupid taxes and whatnot. But all the dispensaries in Philly are too far from my apartment to walk back and forth and I don't know how to work with that much liquid on my bike.

if it's that important, you oughta get a rack or something.

one of the projects i have been planning is to build a beercycle out of an old peugeot ue-8 i have laying around. Im going to use one of those flat rear mounted luggage/crate racks and fasten a large overhanging crate to it using plastic tie-wraps. bungee cords are to hold the beer in the crate, which is big enough to hold any case of beer.

I can fit 2 12 in my crome metro, just ditch the cardboard and everything else in there.

I used to have no problem fitting two 6 packs of bottles in my simple jansport back pack, card board and everything. True, the zipper is tough to pull, but it all fits. I think I carried a loaf a bread in there once too.

If you're going for a case, simple answer is a rack. I dont' think I'd want a case of bottles or cans strapped to my back.

thats what im saying. i live in philly as well and while i can go out to numerus corner korean dellies and pay 30 bucks for 12 beers the 2 local despenseries seem just far enough walking with a case isnt easy.(unless i get myself an old lady shoping cart?).

why not? im not opposed to a rack but it sort of kills the look of a bike. welll sort of unless its that burrly commuter utility type of bike.

the obvious answer is to stop drinking beer and just stick to liquer.

You should have a tour or commuter bike to carry stuff.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw some irony there.

Anyway, my Banjo Brothers bag will easily fit a case of beer (still in the box) and it was only $85, shipped. I'm thinking that's among your most economical options.

Or a rack and a big ass pannier.

forget the bags the trikes and the touring bikes

drink 10 then put one in each pant pocket

Think outside the panniers. There are many mail-order homebrew supply stores. One shop in Long Beach regularly shipped to a brewer at the South Pole.

It seems to me... my brethren of the fixi-licious... that the more ponderous question is, not how we carry the hoppy nectar of the gods in our bags... but more importantly... how do we fare when carrying it in our guts??? More than a few nights peddling towards a sobriety that never never comes...

pedal more and drink the water

water... water??? does water have alcoholic content... will water give me an inflated sense of my own self worth? Make me hilarious? Make less-than-attractive women seem angelic? tranquilize me with its acceleration of my blood circulation??? Make me presume to fight the biggest muscle heads philly has to offer??? No sir... keep your water... keep it indeed!

Sounds like reason #121123123 to get a trailer. it detaches from your lovely fg when you're finished with it and can be used to haul all kinds of ****.

And if you want to go to brick and mortar places, I've definitely carried homebrew supplies (fermenters, i.e. 5 gallon buckets, and a disassembled bottle tree for drying sanitized bottles) on my bike/in my bag.

Not to mention bags of malt and hops that fit nicely in the internal water bottle pockets of the Banjo Bros. bag.

I did break a hydrometer that way, though. :(

Please, a case of beer is nothing if you have a rack on the back of your bike. I transport a 5 gallon thing of water on the back of my bike. You should see the people at the co-op when I strap it on with a ratchet tie and a strap. They think I have lost my mind I think. It sloshes around when I ride and can shift the weight of the bike pretty bad if I am not careful. It is only like 5 miles or so away, so it isn't that bad. It is messing up my rack though. A trailer is another idea to haul ****ttt.

A rack can handle a case of beer with ease.

If you don't want a rack then a large backpack may do the trick. I never tried it. My backpack is pretty big and cheap. You would have to take the bottles out of the case and if they don't all fit, just drink the ones that won't. Simple really. :)

line this (http://www.backcountry.com/store/OSP0102/c3/s8/Osprey-Packs-Crescent-110-Pack-6900-cu-in.html) with a garbage bag and then pour 100 liters of beer into it

you will have to ride with risers okay?

Maybe invest in a new bag? Perhaps this will help you figure out how much you can grab in a trip:

I was a-gonna mention this very same notion. You could make one (AWESOME). I have a couple ideas...
Attach it to the seat tube, by cannibalizing one of those trail-a-little-kid-on-a-half-a-bike-behind-yours contraptions.
Make a bracket out of an old frame, using the dropouts to attach it to your rear hub (might need a new/longer spindle, and might not work if your frame has track ends).

Now that I think of it, I have a buddy who is looking for a welding project. I smell some DIY!!!

Ok I was just working on this shared problem and ran into something interesting.

http://www.stonesbeverage.com (http://www.stonesbeverage.com/)

It's one of the biggest distributors in Philly and they have trucks delivering cases and whatnot around the city (for a few bucks) all day. The guy said their last truck goes out at 6PM so you'd have to order before then. Just go to the site, check what they have in stock, call up, and order. It doesn't solve the bike issue but it does solve the beer issue. There's supposed to be another service at beerrightnow.com that serves Philly but it seems to be down right now.

Woohoo! Case of Victory Old Horizontal barleywine (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/victory-old-horizontal/624/) on the way..
