I've been thinking of turning a bike boom road bike into a cruiser, and I'm looking into adding a drum brake to it.
Would this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-NOS-36-hole-drum-brake-front-hub-Japan-alloy_W0QQitemZ280082158969QQihZ018QQcategoryZ36144QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) be a decent brake?
Thanks.

No drop bars, possibly a single speed, more comfortable seat, for short/shorter rides.

Only if you put a Springer fork on it. They add considerable weight to the front wheel. There's a good reason it never sold in the first place.

It's an alloy hub. That's aluminum in bikespeak, right?

Even with steel internals, how heavy would this be? As much as a couple of pounds?

I have that very hub laced into a 20" rim. It works okay, as in it stops the bike. But, you can't precisely control the amount of brake you apply. It's not really junk, just not as nice as you'd want on a thin tired bike. I would go for a Shimano front brake hub. It's the same type, but much more nicely made.,,,,BD

Tacking the name cruiser onto anything with straight frame tubes, is wrong. Cruisers are
usually heavy, have big fat tires, and are generally comfortable/fun to ride.

See attached picture.....:)

And that hub is all steel, unless I'm mistaken. Weighs about two pounds or so.....

Thanks for the info. After looking at the enlarged pic I can now see that the hub/brake is stamped/drawn steel and not cast or billet.
