I have hub from a schwinn exercise bike that has a reverse threaded lock ring. Has anyone ever tried using one of these? It looks like it could work, anyone have a super cheap 28 hole rim so I can try it?

bearings probably aren't sealed for crap, but who knows. post pics

Given the price of fairly good quality sealed rear hubs, I am not sure what the point would be.

Well, they should be sealed as well as any other Schwinn hub, my Schwinn expert buddy thinks they're pretty much identical to normal hubs. Here are some pictures for those who might be curious.

Doooo it! Looks fine, really. Maybe buy some new bearings?

I just pulled one of these hubs (and lockring and cog) off the scrap heap down at the ol' recycling center. Looks just like the one Kemmer had.

Did you ever try to lace it to a rim?

Nah, I picked up a cheap used wheel with a quando hub. I have since stripped that hub and am again thinking of lacing it up. I've gotten as far as finding used spokes and a rim so I'll probably do it in the next couple of weeks.

grxnt.

a good friend of mine made a pretty hilarious fixed bmx with the built exercise wheel..
it worked fine for him.. but it was still a sorta cruddy bike.

exercise bike conversions, because who rides a bike that changes locations?

Omg! I thought I was the only one who thought of this! Do it! I'm sure it's a good hub. Like they'd make a seperate line and tooling for that hub?

I do use a seatpost off a cheap stationary bike cause it fit and was long enough

Keep us updated when you do. My hub is all cleaned up and ready to go. Maybe I should find a 28 hole rim before I get all excited. Speaking of which, what kind of rim are you going to use with it?
