I'm new...late 40s, carrying about 30 xtra lbs (5'10", 210lbs). I'm considering XC Hardtails from Trek/Fisher in the $400-500 range to ride the local trails at a leisurely pace. I just found out that a shop about an hour from me (part of the same regional chain as my LBS) has a leftover 05 Fisher Mullet for under $500. I realize that the ruggedness of the FR frame is probably overkill for my purposes (I currently have no plans to intentially leave the ground on a bicycle), but I really like the looks of the bike. I also understand that it may feature a more upright/relaxed riding position which I think I would like.
So, how much heavier is the Mullet than a comparable straight XC Hardtail? Why else would I not want the Mullet? I won't buy a bike without riding it....just looking for some insights/opinions before I drive an hour to check it out.
