My boyfriend is a Avid mountain biker he rides his bike on the road sometimes. Mostly cause our hills are covered with snow, yesterday he happened to meet up with me on a group ride I was doing. I just like the looks he gets for riding a singlespeed mtb up a road. :) Its quite entertaining :)

Don't let it get to you. :)

Just ride!!

Hmmmmm, someone is angry. I don't see anything wrong with riding a mtb on a road. Sure your not paranoid? I could care less if you ride a tricycle on the road as long as you are riding. Hey, you kids get of my bigwheel, I am tuning it for the TDF!

well I get pissed off, because I dont know who is he and why must he insist in me getting a road bike. Its soo annoying and he must tell me where to train and how. Geez, I dont want to be a racer, I love to ride, enjoy being adventurous. Thats all. End of story.

The roadies I know would never do that. What ever floats your boat. In fact some of my roadie friends are mtn bikers.

wheelhot
02-19-07, 07:39 AM
well I dont mind if that fellow is a friend and ask me to get a road bike or tell me how to train but It really bugs me that a person whom I dont know is telling me what to do. We met yesterday and today and he gave me the same advice

I think you worry too much what other people say. Who cares what they think or say?

Just say - thanks for your advice but I have other things on my mind right now.

However, if you are riding with them and holding them back - well, then they have a point.

I have ridden with roadies more than a few times. They have screamed at me when I was riding a MTB BDG - honest.

It was because I passed them like they had two flat tires. :D

your whole life will be filled with people telling you what you should and shouldn't do. the majority of these people know nothing about you. you'll have to learn how to deal with this eventually..

OK help me out on this, what do they exactly scream????
makes nosense to me!
you're out riding on the road, who the heck cares what you ride unless you are endangering someone???
The only comment I have only heard or said myself was in a race when I felt bad for this guy on a mtn bike, it looked really heavy for a hilly race, I sure wouldnt of wanted to do that race on his bike!
I cannot belive people have the guts to scream mean things because you're minding your own business riding on the road, Ive heard it all!

i could see maybe someone making a snide comment or something, but i also don't understand the screaming or yelling thing.

BDG, There is this hill west of Denver called Lookout Mtn.

I wanted to ride it on my road bike with bf. He has only Singlespeed mtn bike. Well we were riding up and this older lady on a road bike came up to us and said "You know guy, your riding the wrong bike!!". My bf said nope, just riding with my girl all nice, well she got mad at him.

Sad yes, but it still happens.

me neither, as mean as some roadies can be, I cant picture them wanting to even give that much time of day to someone for riding a mtn bike, they will snob you ( the mean ones) and pretend you dont exist, i really cant picture them taking the time to scream out loud "HAHA loser on a mtn bike!!!"
makes no sense to me.

Yes BDG, I am sorry to say, I was part of the group and they screamed.

"WAIT UP!"

:D

Ive must of grown a pair but being told you got the wrong bike or wait up is nothing compare to what I had to endure for being a girl roadie wanting to ride with the boys.
This is not being screamed at.
Im out of here:p :p

In all my years of riding a road bike, I have never heard such a thing and I was a member of one of the clickiest cycling clubs in Australia:D . I didn't think roadies gave a ***** about people riding MTB's on the road. In fact most of the roadies I know have MTB's. In fact they have fixies, MTB's, road bikes and folders. Does this mean they really aren't roadies after all, but just cyclists? Very very strange.
BTW...Maybe the guy just wants to strike up a conversation while you ride and his social skills are a little dodgy?;)

The only time a roadie was rude to me was when his bike was disabled to the side. I went back and asked if he was okay. Boy, did I step on sacred ground. No way did he want help from me. So I just turned around and went on my merry way. Heading to the dirt trail that starts off from the paved one he was on.

When you turned around, you should have done a fluff in his direction before you went on your merry way. borrrrrrrt
I know I know, you don't do fluffs. ;)

I'm going to go to a group ride tonight. I'm going to show up on this (without the rack and handlebar bag)

And I'll be wearing jeans.

I've never been on any group ride at all, but I'm wholeheartedly expecting to get chastised by roadies. I don't care, though.

Meh. I have a couple of guys that ride road with me that were both mountain bikers exclusively. Both have told me that they have gotten faster on the trails, and that they climb on the trails better. On the other side, mountain biking helps with the technical skills. There's a lot of gain to riding what you don't normally ride, but it's up to you really, so don't be angry with what other people say.

OK, I didn't really bother reading through all the posts. ( I just don't have that kind of time) But basically, you're telling us that you're jealous of how awesome roadies, like myself, are... If you are so jealous of us, why not just get a road bike and join the cool crowd?

Absolutey everyone, just for starters, should have both a road and mt bike. :)

I've trained and ridden thousands of miles every year on a mountain bicycle. During Treks, club rides, and other bicycle events, people who ride road and racing bicycles often say something like this to me:

"You're doing this ride on a mountain bike? That's admirable! How do you do it?

I've NEVER received any crap from anyone.

cyclezealot
02-20-07, 12:50 AM
I recall seeing a roadie who trained on a titanium moutain bike. He used it day after day, on the road for roadie race training. He really zoomed on that mountain bike. He had fat tires on it, but they were slicks. And when he got on his race bike he really, really zoomed.

As long as you don't take off the reflectors or the kickstand you should be accepted as "one of the guys"... maybe tuck that umbrella into the bottle rack in case it rains. :D :D
