hi,

I'm a newbie in mountain biking. Im from Montreal, Can.
I've been riding motocross for 4-5 years and I've decided to get a human powered bike as well.
I registered mainly because I'm looking for a bike and, hum, you know. I don't know much about it and I definitely need advices.
Since I'm a newbie, I don't think I need a 2000$ bike. A "cheap" one should be ok. I know some pros will tell me I won't get anything good for 600-700$ CAN (430-500$ US). I need an objectice viewpoint about the question :)

my criterias:
-hardtail mountain bike
-my budget is 400-500$ US

I plan riding about 2-3 times a week.

do you guys have any models that would fit my criterias?

thanks in advance

Actually there are several decent models of hardtails in that price range....

Specialized Rockhopper seems like a quality hardtail, but there's also Gary Fisher Tassajara, many Giant and some Trek models to choose from.

Buying used can usually get you a better quality bike for the same price as a new bike, just a few years old. A lot of people out there buy a bike and either don't use it, need cash, or upgrade to a different bike, so they sell their 1-2 year old bike for pretty cheap. Check out e-bay, or www.mtbr.com and click on classifieds.

Good luck, and welcome Unclebenz!

Hey There Look for a magazine called PEDAL. The new one is the price guide to every bike you can get in Canada. I will look through my copy later and tell you what I feel is the best bike for your money.
