I have never been here or in the area much at all. My girlfriend has a race here April 1st. Any suggestions for a group ride on the Saturday before or maybe Sunday...any must see's, must eats or must drinks?

Galve...must sees..hmmm. Well there is the Strand for some food and drink. Ride your bike on the seawall...that is about it.
Just curious is she riding in the Space Race?

I live here and there is not much in the way of organized group rides. Occasionally there is a group that meets at the soccer fields near MG and when they ride it is usually around 8. You could easily do 35+ miles to the far west end of the island and back. But unfortunately the first several miles out are on narrow roads that are really not that safe (eventually you get a full lane for the shoulder). Your best bet is to go to the Bike Barn in Clear Lake about 45 minutes toward Houston. The Space City Cycling Club has a group ride every Saturday and Sunday from 30 - 60 miles at any apce you want to go. There can be from 50 to 80 or so that show up and the groups are sent out by speed class so you can easily pick the group you would feel most comfortable with. I will be out of town that weekend but I will answer any further questions you may have.

As for group rides, I guess you'll have to PM me, cause there really is no group on the island that meets regularly. As was said before, the best rides are in Clear Lake.
So as for things to do, the strand is nice, perhaps a little tourist, but if the weather is nice, its a great place to hang out. So go to the strand and catch some lunch. There are plenty of restaurants in the strand, I recommend the "Mediterranean Chef" on 24th and Strand for a healthy authentic restaurant.
After the strand, take a quick hop across the island, 2 minute drive max, and head to the seawall. Once there go to "The spot" and sit on the deck and catch a beer. thats at 35thish and seawall. If you really want to be a local, go to "the poop deck" a dive, but sit on the raised deck outside, its great.
Before you get some beers- take an easy bike ride down the seawall if you wish its a nice ride.
Gaidos is a good seafood place on 39th street and seawall, its locally owned and operated, nice place. I have a million good ideas if you want more PM me.

The best seafood in all of Galveston is at Clary's on Teichmann Blvd, just off the causeway. It's not on the Strand or the sewall, so most folks pass it by.

This is true. However, its a bit off the beaten path, or even the path less traveled. Hell its more of a "you better know where your are going" path. There are not a whole lot of restaurants near Moody Gardens I would recommend. If you want to eat where the locals eat there is also a place called DeBella's on 30th and P. Its seafood/ Italian, they do not accept credit cards, but like a good ma and pa place they will take a personal check. You can even BYOB with a nominal bottle fee.

Ironically, everybody going on the island passes within 1 block of Clary's just as they come down off the bridge.
Haven't heard of DeBella's... I'll check it out :)

I had never thought of it like that, but your right! So let me rephrase, if you are even remotely hungry while crossing the bridge, STOP and go to Clary's. You will not be disappointed!
