Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. is this a decent frame? how does it compare to iro mark v?
thanks
I like them rad geometry, no cable guides ,drilled for brakes and the best looking fork on a budget bike.
but I have to say the new schwinn madison is looking good as well. but I have ridden a KHS and liked it a bunch more than the slack road geometry of the Iro.

yeah, that's pretty much what i think of them, except the part about having ridden them. if i recall right, the tubing's not terrible, either. i thought about picking one up for a bit, still haven't decided i never will for a budget bike.
wondering about the quill stem vs threadless. the khs i'm looking at is lst years yellow one wjich has the quill stem. i know there is an adapter to go threadless. opinions on that?

It's a useful kludge if you need to use os bars for one reason or another. Beyond that it kinda sucks.

you can get quill stems that you can use a wider variety of bars with. the salsa s.u.l. was mentioned ina thread late last week and seemed like a good option...i almost wanted one just to have on hand.
oh, wait...i have two projects that'd be great for. ****!

I have the '06 flite 100 and its great. I swapped out the wheels and drivetrain though, also saddle, pedals and bars. I didn't like the wheels or saddle but everything else is passable off the shelf. Its a great commuter because you can fit it with rack and fenders. It has a nice responsive ride but isn't too crazy that it becomes impractical to ride. Mercier and Spicer offer the same frame, so keep them in mind if you want different components or a bare frame.
My flite 100 was the first year to go threadless which I am quite glad of.
^^^they're right
threadless adapter setups negate most of the benefits of a threadless setup.
also, i use a salsa SUL and i like it a lot.
check this out I had my friends wifes bike threaded because on that frame it looked ugly threadless

you can get it as just a frame, but you have settle for red. bike central in portland, oregon sells them as frame and fork only.

i've got a mercier (pretty much re-branded khs flite) and i got it solely because i love th geometry of it. i planned on swapping out most of the components anyway.
here is mine personally I love the bike It is tighter than a mark v or angus

I bought a black frame from spicer cycles for 225. I love it. The geo is tight and I prefer threadless. I'd say the geometry is more fun than road geometry and the steel is pretty decent.

I think the KHS is about as tight as I would care to ride on the street. I have a ridiculously tight track bike and its rubbish on the street. Plus it doesn't even have rack and fender eyelets!

way tighter than an IRO. i just dont' like it now they rolled over to a threadless fork... and a 1" threadless, which is a pain in the ass to find a decent stem for aside from a mutant that looks like a, well, mutant.

see my bike above it has a thomson with the factory thomson shim in it and I haven't had so much as a flex outta the thing I weight 220# and ride like a manimal

I have decent 1" threadless stems coming out my ears... Plus take any 1-1/8" stem and pop a shim it it and you're set. Now you don't have to carry 2 huge headset wrenches with you!

I like the new paint for 07'

Love, love, love mine. I got the frameset from Gene Spicer for $180.00 (!). Got hit and had to replace the fork with a Soma Rush fork. I'm rolling on Miche, Aerohead, wheelsmith wheels and Sugino RD's. I'll probably replace those with a Miche or Stronglight crank soon.
Great frame.

I don't really see how having a shim between my stem and steer tube could do anything bad. You just can't torque it enough because of the headset... I mean, if you twisted the bars enough to shift the shim you've probably just crashed, have the fork in a vise or have a headset you just filled with JB weld... Shimming the handlebars on the other hand could cause problems as you put a lot of torque on some kinds of handlebars.
And nobody carries headset wrenches, but I can still adjust my headset without them. People with threaded headsets can't.
