Can a bad saddle, like a stock saddle cause back problems? I have to go to the hospital in a few hours so they can maybe find out what’s wrong with me. Over the past couple of months or so I have had back pain. But now the weather is getting better, I ride more often. Which my back pains has increased. I also have been working out with weights and had a few major soccer accidents over three months ago.

If you can help me I would greatly appreciated.
Leo

Back problems are a complex issue. The fact that you had major soccer accidents may mean that you have an issue that can be aggrevated by an improperly fitted bike. The saddle may be contributing but you should have everything well set on the bike.

Also, if your back needs to heal, you should avoid doing harsh riding on your bike. Do you ride a hardtail or a full suspension? Do you ride smooth trails or rougher stuff? Do you ride anything that you would consider to be tough on your back?

I do not have any back problems but I have noticed that on long rides, choppy stuff on my hardtail made my back feel sore. The solution to that was to do core exercises (back, abs, glutes) for both strength and flexibility. I know you're fairly young but you should take good care of your back now. You don't want it being a big problem when you're older.

no.

Frequently back pain comes from muscular weakness or imbalance. When you can, do exercises to strengthen the midsection. Ab crunches on an exercise ball are good, as are hyperextensions. Sometimes simply neglecting stretching can be the culprit.

I have hardtails. I have been riding on the road all winter so no trails. But road conditions are not allways that great.

As a runner we do core work outs so no problem there.

Scoccer was way back in september but bumpy riding could aggrevate a out of place disk then right?

So then even with a bad saddle, a properly fit bike would have very little damage to your back?

Talk to your doctor. You'll get the most reliable information there.

i'm having the same thoughts too. i ride a hardtail and usually go to bumpy trails. i have a stock wtb saddle and my back is killing me. i guess i'll chill a bit and see if the pain will go away.

You can make your bike very comfortable with a gel seat and the right tires.

OK, I just got back from the doctor. They took some X-Rays and came up with this. When I was blindsided in soccer, I had fractured my hip, and poped some dics out of line. It all corrected itself over time. But the dics did not line up perfectly. So I most likey just aggravated it. I have some streching things to do daily and it schould heal over time.

But I am glad that its not a saddle problem. I am getting a better one when I have the money.

Thanks everyone Leo

:roflmao: you sure got your priorities straight...

Hmmmmmmmm, issues with my disc or issues with my saddle. If i had the choice between a saddle problem, and a problem with my disc (which i do), i would gladly take the saddle problem.
