Southern California - Hemet Double Century April 14th

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm in. Sent my registration today. Turns out it's not costing me anything because I was a volunteer last year. Jim Watrous rode with the RBC last weekend and said that anyone who volunteered this year would get free registration next year. I asked him if it was retroactive to last year and he said that it's always been his policy.
I'll be doing loop #2. Can't start until 9:00 am, so there will be plenty of the double century riders passing me.

Bump...
Okay. Anyone still doing this double? (or do I hear an echo?)
I'm still in and in the Triple Crown info (on the TC website), it states that some new areas have been added (wine country). I've still been advised it's pretty boring. Luckily, I'll have entertaining company. :D
Isit, I'm assuming you are still doing the century and I know Shnuddy and I am the Edge are considering that route as well. I hope to see you out there!
They have wine country near Hemet? I thought it was strictly a prune juice / Budweiser / crystal meth kind of town.

perhaps....but you cover ALOT of territory on a double!

Well then it should remind me of back home. :D - only insert pot in place of meth.

Hey, Shnuddy, I don't know if I already mentioned this to you or not, but if you and the hubby would like to have dinner on Friday night, let me know. You too, Isits. It would be fun to all meet for a post ride carb fest. :D

Latest forecast: low of 48 degrees, high of 75 & sunny. SHOULD be good riding weather. But after Solvang and the 14 degree difference between the forecast and reality, I'll be bringing extra layers.

Yeah, me too. I learned my lesson at Solvang. Thanks for the weather update, Joel. :D

Okay, change of plans . . .
Jackie and I had originally decided not to do Hemet, but now we've both decided to at least ride the first loop (starting at 4:30 AM), and then either go for it, or pass . . . on the 2nd loop. If we feel strong and okay after loop 1, we'll go for loop 2.
Otherwise, hey, at least we got in a century!
I'll be wearing the red/white OCRR kit, so say "Hi!" as you go past! Not sure what Jackie will be wearing, maybe the Eagle (old) OCRR jersey?
Jackie's car is a Subaru Forester with "Bike 1" license plates, if you happen to see us at the motel / parking lot.
Best Regs,
Rick / OCRR

Hey Rick. Awesome - either one or two loops! Either way, I'd love to meet you and Jackie. We're starting closer to 6:00am (probably 5:45 on the dot), so we may miss you. But if you guys are in Hemet tomorrow night, we'll be grabbing dinner around 6:30pm and would love to have you join. Let me know, and I'll PM you my cell number. :)

Sounds good to me. There's a Marie Callendar's (sp?) there in the same parking lot as the (Hemet Double Headquarters) Motel 6, so that's where we usually eat on Friday evening. But whatever.
No need to eat after the double anywhere else but at the Motel 6, since the Hemet Double Barbeque is World Famous (almost!), and rightfully so. Be careful not to eat too much at lunch (after the first loop) since it can bog you down on the big climb that's within ten miles (maybe sooner?) after you start the 2nd loop.
Breakfast on Sun. morning usually finds us (or we find it?) at the same Marie Callendar's. Will you be wearing your bikeforums.net jersey (black with red star) or what?
Yes, PM me your cell so hopefully we can all get together!
Best Regs,
Rick / OCRR

Hey, Rick. I don't own the BF jersey (and haven't gotten the so cal girls' jersey yet). I'll be the loud one with the camera hugging people. You can't miss me. ;) But I will definitely PM you. I didn't realize that they offered food after this one. Awesome! Oh, and there is a climb? I thought it was flat! :p

I'm glad to see you're starting at 5:45. I was a little concerned about 5 am, not having lights and all, plus driving in from the desert. I'll keep my eye out for you guys! :)

14 mph winds forecast for tomorrow afternoon. Could get a bit brutal if it's gusting up beyond that.

Hi M.E.,
Since you're starting later, you'll probably catch up to us! I'll be riding my 853 GT (bright blue with yellow decals), and Jackie will be on her Redline Conquest D, which is easy to pick out since it's bright red and has disc brakes front and rear.
Your bike is light blue? Don't remember what brand though . . . sorry!
I'll PM you my cell number too.

Thanks you guys for your sweet comments. I'm excited to knock this puppy out. I'm tired and need to get some balance back (more weight work, etc.). Poor Joel and Bill, they get to hear me whine tomorrow (before they drop my butt).
Rick, I'll put your number in my phone and PM you mine.
Shnuddy! Please send me your cell again - or I'll PM you mine. I can't find your PM. I'm such a dork sometimes.
Lee, have fun whatever ride you do this weekend. We'll get you out on another century and pop your cherry! :D

Tired? I figured you are like the energizer bunny, that keeps going and going and going .... I'd have to keep training just to keep up with you and hear you yammer.

Yeah, the keeping up with me part isn't the hardest - it's the yammering. I'm so good at. Of course, I practice it often. Like right now, I'm going to go torture...um...I mean ride with Magicanty. I'm going to yammer his butt off. :D

Just got home a little while ago (did the single century). Good weather, nicely organized, lot's of road construction and traffic  , the others are out on the second half--big winds were coming up around the time I finished, so they're in for a tough one. Report and pics to follow.
