I'm looking for a company that does cheap custom work. I've got odd ball body geometry that stock bikes don't fit me. My dream bike is a custom Calfee Dragonfly but before I drop the 5g's on that frame, I want to see if I would like my custom geometry I have calculated.

So essentially, looking for anyone that does cheap[er] aluminum or steel custom bikes.

Go to the framebuilding section, they've got a LONG list of guys who do custom stuff, and usually have a good idea where to find the best bang for the buck.

If Calfee is your benchmark, then you have set a high standard indeed. Be careful, lowering your budget risks compromises that you might not like. I would recommend the Calfee Tetra custom as a lower cost (but still expensive) option. It will provide the same ride and overall quality of the Dragonfly at a smidgen more weight - but lower cost. I have one and absolutely love it. For metal I like Carl Strong too.

Well, I want a "test" frame so when I buy/order the dragonfly, its with the geometry I want.

You might try Mezzatesta (Mezzbike.com). I've seen a few of these and each was beautiful. This guy enjoys a reputation around Pittsburgh for skill and meticulousness. You can get a basic chrome-moly frame for 1,100; add a fork, a boutique tube set, fancy lugs and the price goes up a few hundred bucks. Not exactly cheap, but custom frames seldom are. If you're going to buy a custom frame, why not get one that you love? Man, imagine having two custom bikes: a flyweight carbon fiber whip and an artisan steel sculpture. It's almost enough to get me thinking of getting a "real" job.
