It has either been to cool/cold, or rainy to ride. Its driving me nuts!! Interesting thing is this is how the floods of 1993 started, when Des Moines lost its water supply for 11 days and a lot of other areas were severly flooded. I hope that does not happen this time, 10 years later. I hardly was able to ride then too because of the rain.

My season is getting off to a late start. I may have to reevaluate my milage goal for the year of 2003 miles. May have to reduce it by as much as 500 miles.

Anyone else have an issue with the weather similar to this?

i rode 5 days a week through a wisconsin winter. i'm sure a little bit of rain can't be that big of a problem. sure, i only did an hour a day, but that's better than nothing.

Would not be bad here if the wind was not 20-40 mph and raining. I was at a stop light today and it felt like someone was jumping on my car the wind was so strong. I do hate high winds, but the fear of being blown into traffic tends to keep me on the trainer during days like this. Hang it there it will get better.

I don't mind the rain and cold as much- it's the wind that's taking the bite out of my sails right now. Today we had winds of 30+ miles per hour. Yesterday, it was 40- 60 mile per hour winds. Even leading up to these windy days, we still had strong winds of up to 25 miles per hour over the last few weeks.

I guess I'm feeling whiny and tired, that's all. Time for a hot bubble bath tonight. I got another long ride planned for the morning...

GAH! I was just griping about this today, my rotten early season luck! I feel like I've been hardly riding at all. FIrst it was really cold and crappy. I know it makes me sound like a weenie but I am not big on riding when it's hovering near the freezing mark! In early april we had SNOW! Finally it got nice, and I got a few rides in, but at this time of year, it's not unusual to have more rain than nice weather. It's just so unpredictable! Then I missed some nice days because I was busy, and then last week I had back trouble so I missed a couple of nice days. Then on sunday, I was going to go for a short spin, but my knee was kind of sore, and so I said ahhh forget it. Now today it's raining and tomorrow is supposed to be crummy again! Not cold, though, just rainy. The only good thing is that I have 'girl trouble' and probably wouldn't go for a ride today anyways.

Finally, the weather is supposed to improve on wednesday and be nice right through the weekend (it's a long weekend here), so I intend to ride EVERY DAY! The other problem this time of year is wind. It can get really windy, so I am hoping that won't be a problem.

So you can see I'm going nuts here too. Everyone else is suffering so I don't feel so bad.

Yep. Weather around here has been pretty shoddy lately too, and it doesn't look like it's going to get better any time soon. Maybe I should stop being such a wussy.

rain is good, it cleans the roads :)
i try and get out morning and evening and i will tell ya.. sometimes it's pretty...yeuchhhhhh out. yesterday it was raining and 14c then the wind turned as i headed back into Toronto and not only did it become 22c just like that... the sun and wind dried me off! so why not set out for a little jaunt... you never know if the weather will improve(positive thinking, positive thinking) and you might have such a good time you will forget about the wet and wind and end up smiling for 20 miles or more.:)

note: i did not advise riding in sleet or tornados.. i don't ride in those.. well not lately.

Not much rain but plenty of wind. Doesn't matter. It's not how fast you ride, it's how long. A windy day's a good reason to grab the ATB and ride down the dirt roads.

I like to look for excuses to ride instead of excuses to stay home.

A windy day is a good day to lay the hammer down in one direction, and work on your tecnique and tuck position when you are going against the wind. Today was windy, I got a great leg workout.

I ride in sleet all the time. Heck, we went two complete years without rain, I had to make do with what I had. :( .

As far as rain goes, please feel free to send as much as you like over here absolutely pronto. Our water supply is still only 45% capacity - a big improvement on the 28% we had back in January, but still not enough.

Oh, BTW, we're having typical winter weather over here at the moment. Yesterday's temperature range: 14-23 degrees C. :p

Yeah, the weather is really going crazy. It is raining over here when it should be a season where it's hot and everything. I can't really get to cycle after I come back from school which is in the evening, and I still have so much work ot complete ...... arghhhh......

um.. are you still trying to make me jealous?.. if you are, it's working! :D

p.s. i meant sleet as in the kind where your tires won't move they are frozen in the road as you try to ride ..lol
haven't found a solution to protecting my face in hail yet.

It has been a rather cool spring in the midwest. Ad if I go by my journals this is the windiest year of the last four.

Preidctions:bunch of "heat-stroke" stories when the weather warms up, 'cause no one "got used to it"....

Rain is easy, it's the 2 feet of snow every winter that is tough.

Here chris, it's been raining for 2 days straight, have some of ours!

Actually, rain at this time of year is not unusual, it's normal and it's necessary. I am sure farmers appreciate it and so will we at the supermarket. Dry weather in may would be nice for us but we'd all pay for it later. Still, after a couple of soggy days, you get a bit wiggy!

Anyways, I'd rather live around here than live in a part of the continent where "may" means "tornadoes"!

I've ridden in hail, it's not so bad. At least whatever damage the hail does will eventually heal. I'm not sure the damage last year's dust storm did to my lungs will ever be the same again.

Oh yeah, my promise not to gloat anymore only related to flats, so I can still make people jealous about our winters whenever I feel like it! :D :p

No such thing as bad weather, just different degrees of good weather and bad choices of clothing LOL...after a winter with 45+ days below freezing this spring has been pretty dry and easy, dont worry in about 30 days all the midwesterners will be complaining that its 90+ with lots of humidity, better get some miles in now before its freakin hot outside.

Thank you Wabbit, it arrived this evening. :D Although I'm surprised just how much it warmed up in the rain, I thought Canada was supposed to be cold! Would you like some passionfruit in return?

If I didn't ride when it was cold or raining, I would miss out on alot of riding. I dress for the weather and I have to clean my bike more often. But I am out riding.

You Yanks, always complaining about the weather.
If you travel across the pond to the UK, you will find mild temperatures (14-18C), light winds, occasional showers and a bit of sunshine. What more could you want.
