Name of Ride: Butterfield Double
Location: San Diego County/Lake Elsinore/Anaheim
When: February
Type: double century
Number of Riders: 200
Organizer: Planet Ultra
Rating: 4.5
Comments on SAG support and Rest Stops: Excellent coordination at the stops, well-stocked, friendly volunteers, lots of aid (Endurolytes, advil, bandages, powders and food choices - V8 was great! SAG vehicles were noticed often roaming the route. Debbie and Brian did a very nice job. I wish there had been a porta pottie at the fourth stop, but they did make it clear on the route slip that there wasn't one, so fair enough!
Comments on the route: I didn't mind this route even though a great deal of it was urban riding. I didn't like the I-5, but we were on it for such a short amount of time, it didn't matter. Temescal Cyn in the dark was scary with little to no shoulder, tons of cars and no streetlights, but if you ride a double and you can't finish it before dark (which I can't), then you have to be prepared for these types of situations. I learned a lot from this double that will aid me on future rides. I'm giving it a 4.5 only due to urban riding (which isn't my favorite), but not because it wasn't extremely well organized.
