Well, after throwing my back out last month (and still not knowing how I did it), I am looking around at a 'bent as a main ride around campus.

Couple questions:

Any good recommendations on a 'bent place in Austin? (Yes, I can Google, but its nice to know what people personally like or hate.)

How transportable is a SWB 'bent? It will be carted around by a full-size pickup truck.

Last, are there any issues with locking one to normal bike racks?

Thanks much.

22, I'll get you started with my little knowledge. SWB are easier to 'get around' cause the wheel base is more like a DF...if you have mounts in the bed of your truck, you are ready to go. With a whole pickup bed you could haul bikes trikes and probably even tandems... As for the bike rack, I have never had any problem and I have both long and short wheel base. Sorry, i am not close to Austin so can not speak to that part of your need. hope your back gets better.

Try Easy Street Recombents. They have a website and you can call them and make an appointment to see bikes at their shop. Mike Librik and Amy Babich are pretty well known in the area.

I had an appointment to meet those guys about a year ago at their shop to do some test-riding. They never showed up. I waited until about 30 minutes past our agreed upon time, then gave up and left. I never went back.

If you decide to make an appointment to meet them, I would recommend calling them before you even leave home, to be sure they are waiting.
