Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Cinelli Handlebar and Stem

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This may be the wrong forum for this, but since I'm in the process of building my first fixed gear bike, I figured I'd start here.
I have a set of 64-40 Cinelli Drop bars that someone has chopped. I probably wouldn't have chopped them, but someone did and now they are mine so I'm going to use them.
I don't have a stem that will fit the bars (Cinelli needs 26.4mm clamp). I called a local LBS and they happened to have an old Cinelli stem and it fit (I was on cloud nine), they gave it to me for free :D
I've been looking on ebay and people want $50 and up plus shipping. The only down side to my new free stem is that it is missing a part that basically makes it useless.
Having done some research I've figured out it is a Cinelli 1R stem. It is missing the part that tightens up on the bars.
Does anyone have any idea where I could find replacement parts for an old Cinelli Stem? If not does anyone know where I can find an old Cinelli stem that is pretty cheap. And if not, how about any other stem that would fit 26.4 mm bars?
Thanks,
Chad
to be honest ebay is probably your best bet. i'm sure you can find some for 20 or less if you're patient. i picked up a 2a (track stem) for a bit over 20 a couple weeks ago.

Is the stem broken or the threads stripped? If not you could just buy a new bolt. If the threads are stripped you could buy a bolt and nut which fit through (my DIY buying new one is last option side)

It isn't the quill bolt that is missing. The clamp on this stem is "internal". If I have time I'll upload pictures later today. Basically there is a little piece of metal that is part of the clamp that the "tightening bolt" pushes up against to make the clamp get smaller until it is secured on the bars. I'm missing that piece.
If I could find a diagram of what it looked like and how it worked I could possibly make something...
I guess now I know why they gave it to me for free

The expander is going to be hard to find. You might be better off just buying an old XA or 1A stem off eBay... For what it's worth, those 1R stems looked pretty cool but they have a habit of creaking pretty bad because of it's design.
I have Sakae Ringyo handlebars and a cinelli stem. Yes there are compatibility issues because the stem is slightly too big for the bars. What you can do is get a coke can, slice it up and wrap it around the bars a few times. This will allow you to tighten the clamp properly.

Dare I suggest using a bit of JB Weld and just making it permanent?

hmmm...that is tempting. I have less than $180 in the bike now. I really hate to go out and spend $40-50 just on a stem.
JB Weld is much more in the spirit of what I've done so far...very tempting. I mean I realigned the hub last night and ended up using lock washers as spacers, so... ;)
I may have one, so stand by. I will look. Pm me later so I can keep you informed.
No promises but I do have parts for that stem.

^ I can also dig around at our co-op. I think we had to cut off a cinelli stem. We may still have it. PM me.

hmmm...I picked up the 1R stem with the same missing piece rendering it useless with my cinelli giro bars. If anyone has updated info on getting that inner piece let me know, I appreciate any help. I checked loosescrews.com and I don't think they carry it anymore.
