Road Cycling - Dallas Riders??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey Gang...
I was wondering where and when my fellow Dallasites ride?
I work a crappy shift, midnite to 11am. By the time I get out of work and on my bike it is the warm part of the day. I usually ride around in Richardson ( 12 miles ) or from work to whiterock lake and back ( 23 miles ).
So what I am really looking for is when folks ride... hoping that some one has a similuar riding habits and might want to ride together every now and then.
thanks for your input.

Hm. When I lived there, I did laps around White Rock Lake. There's usually group rides there of an evening, but that might not work with your schedule. Talk to the guys at Richardson Bike Mart and Plano Cycling. They both have group rides, but I don't remember when.
But, part of the reason I don't miss Dallas one bit is the fact that there aren't that many great road rides there. The mountain biking is surprisingly good in the immediate area, but the road riding was lacking. Good luck, though, I know there's more there than I was willing to drive to.
SirJoel it seems like you ride at the right time. Me and the family go to White Rock in the evenings. It is alot of people out there. Some times it is like driving on the street. I have seen those groups of riders at times. And if your not as fast as they are, they want you out of there way.

Go to http://txbra.netcyclesolutions.com
This is the TX bicycle racing website. They have a bunch of training rides listed broken down by area. You could also make a post in the forum for folks with similar schedules. I recall someone recently looking for a training partner for "daylight" hours.
I do most of my weekday rides around Frisco in
the evening (after work) sometimes go to Whiterock
early Sat or Sun (after 10:00 am and its like being on 635
during rush hour.
RBM has evening rides (don't know if it fits your
schedule) in all catagories.
Ya know, we need to schedule a Texas
Bike Forums bike ride and bar bee que!

Thanks,
When I lived in Lewisville there were several routes that I rode.
1. Hiway 121 from Lewisville to The Colony (and surrounding area) (varies)
1.a Lewisville to Plano on 121
2. Frontage road past Lake Lewiville (about 13 mile loop)
3. Denton to Mesquite and back (about 50 miles)
4. Denton to The Colony and back (not sure on mileage)
It's been awhile since I lived there and the roads may have changed.
There's also a lot of paved trails in the area if you want to avoid the psycho drivers around here. I ride the River Legacy Trail starting in Arlington, typically about a 20 mile round trip. I think they just connected with a trail that runs a good ways (maybe all the way) to Dallas, but I haven't explored that yet. Also, in Fort Worth, you can ride the Trinity River path. I guess if you start down at (or ride down to) Benbrook Lake, you can get 35+ miles in, away from traffic. I've occasionally ridden out by Saginaw and there's not much traffic out there. Haven't explored all the routes out there, but I think you could go just about as far as you wanted to.
I wouldn't agree that the Mt. Biking is suprisingly good... I mean, I guess it's all relative and the fact that it's an urban area with OK trails counts, but compared to... say, anyplace with hills, it's lacking. But, that's just me.
