Foo - The Road Less Traveled

Morning all - as you can probably tell, I am on the road less traveled in many areas. I live in a very simple way, create business in a foreign country, bunny hopping chickens and dodging cows on the bike. We raise most of our own food as well.

Aside from this forum and a couple of others, I rarely communicate with anyone in English except my wife, and we sometimes speak Spanish!

Sometimes I wonder how I got here - but it really is because I love the road less traveled. Yes, my life is crazy - but it is a good crazy.

One thing that it has done is made me feel old but young - old because I have had so many experiences, young because I function much more like a young person. They say as you get older, you life goes slower, I can tell you, it isn't true for me. A year feels like ten years to me. We have only been in Costa Rica for less than 3 years - but it feels like a lifetime due to the experiences.

I am curious - how many of you feel you are on a road less traveled?

P.S. I am convinced by the way that without the internet - I would have probably lost it by now! :eek:

I keep trying to find it. I think I need a map. ;)

I used to be. Northern Aroostook County in Maine definitely is less traveled.

What I find decidedly weird is that if you asked me when I was a teenager if I would end up this way - I would have laughed. No ambitions to be the odd ball.

i am the amercian dream in reverse. i've moved from the US to Europe, and make less money than my parents.

So, my answer is: yes.

Sometimes I think I'm on it, though I know I'm not the first, or last, person to be on this particular road. Just gotta keep movin' on 'til the right exit comes into view.

I don't consider myself a road less traveled type of person. But I do appreciate people who really examine their lives instead of mindlessly following the herd.

I bet that picture would be worth some bucks! Imagine a white haired nut bombing down a rock and mud road with water flying, children fleeing, cows trying to climb fences to get out of the way, suspended in the air with a paniced chicken fluttering underneath.

And of course you have to have a group of locals with their jaws dropped just staring...

crtreedude: to what do you attribute your being on the road less traveled?

Do you think you have different values, or are wired differently than most people?

Or do you think most people simply don't seek out or pursue that their true inner desires?

I think there are two factors that have contributed to this fate.

One is that I resemble a hound dog I had once. She would put her nose down on a scent and the next thing you know, be in another county! Fences, roads, you name it, meant nothing as long as she was on a scent. I get an idea and I just want to run it down to the end. After I get to the end of the road, I look up and say, " How in heck did I get here?!"

The other thing is that I love learning and I honestly am afraid of being bored. I find many people want to be comfortable. Being comfortable means nothing to me.

I don't tend to make close friends - so moving doesn't really bother me - my wife is the same. It isn't that we are cold as much as very busy. We also have each other as best friends.

So, I honestly think I am wired differently than most.

Well I've done a lot of stuff in my life, making me a jack of all trades - master of none, mainly because I never could pass up a side road...always gotta see where they go, even though they usually end up back on the main highway at some point. I got off the main highway again last year, splitting with a good gal I'd lived with for 6 years and quitting a six-figure IT management job with a global company, essentially starting over with a simpler, less stressful life. I guess I just never did take to well to staying on that old main drag. ;)

I have walked away from a lot of money more than a few times in my life because I didn't like the people who what was being asked me. Besides, I can always make enough to live on.

Chasing rabbits can definitely take you down byways.

Did someone say wabbits?
