Mountain Biking - Good deal?

Need opinions ASAP! Local Performance Bike Shop has on clearance an '05 Fuji Outland Comp LE for $299 including tax. I currently have a Hardrock Comp Disc and plan on using the Fuji for city riding and keeping the Hardrock for trails. What do you experts think?

SRAM 5.0 rear
SRAM Gen X front
Truvativ Five D crankset
SRAM 7.0 brakes
Suntour SR XCP 75 forks, 80mm travel w/lockout
AlexiRims

If it's just for city riding, see if they'll swap out the Suntour fork for a rigid fork. Use the extra money to convert it to SS... ;)

Sorry, newbie question. What is SS?

Single Speed - no derailleurs or shifters. Great for around town, very low maintenance and it will make you a stronger rider...

rigid fork is a good idea.....also its worth trying some narrow semi-slick tires (check www.pricepoint.com) and lighter tubes......

I am not very sure about the SS idea.....the city i live in has some rolling hills, so, I would not want to go with a single speed......also, the SRAM drive train is pretty nice......I would keep it.....in that way, I would have a backup trail bike......along with a decent city bike.....

This frame have a problem. Especially the conection of Head tube and down tube is so weak. Welding also so weak.

Sometimes happened crak. In fact a few weeks ago, one mad have been dead becaue of destroying frame in my country.

1) 1 reviewer in Korea heard of a guy that "may have been dead?" because he broke his frame. Without knowing what happened to cause the break, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Fuji is a good brand.

be very careful when reading mtbr.com owner reviews.....Some reviews are written by some sorry a$$ morons who can type but does not have any clue about mountain bikes.......They will take an XC bike and jump X Y Z feet and complain that the bike does not hold up......and write a bad review......not helpful....

Although not beyond bias, I found the people in this forum to be much more informative and real.......I think it would be very hard to break a frame through city riding....unless the obvious....hit by a car or a truck or something of that sort.....

I, personally would not use the Hardrock for city riding, cause no amount of locking would prevent the theft (if not the frame, all the parts).....although, it depends on the city...

For the price of the Fuji, I was going to put city slick tires on it instead of buying separate rims for the Hardrock and having to swap out when doing trails. Do you think I'm acting like a little wimp and being too spoiled?:(

it sounds like a good idea to me, keeps your mountain bike from getting road salt on it and you always have a bike with slicks

Thanks again everyone for all your quick responses. I've decided to buy it and keep it at work to use during lunch time - will be perfect with slicks as just flat roads around work.
