Road Cycling - Cycling glasses with perscription?

Can anyone recommend a solution for some good cycling sunglasses for those
of use who need prescription eyewear.

I know Louis Garneau has an Rx insert for their TRi-pack and that's probably
the way to go.

Has anyone used the Louis G stuff or seen or used another system?

I use the Performance Radial (now the Radial II, which I haven't used) and have been very happy with them, both with the functionality of the glasses and with the ease and relative inexpensiveness of ordering them through their catalog. I think I paid about $85 for the whole package -- Rx inserts, prescription lenses, and the glasses themselves.

I tried them on at a Performance store first, and was very glad I did. I was originally going to order something else sight-unseen that, it turned out, wouldn't have suited me very well either for fit or appearance.

They're expensive, but Oakley has most of their lenses available with a prescription now. You have to find a good Oakley dealer, but they'll set you up.

I also need good wind deflection because i have very watery eyes. Are the RX Oakleys large enough to keep the wind out of my eyes?

There are many out there. Zeal does some while Briko will do the insert clips. However nothing beats the Oakleys. Expensive but you get your moneys worth.

A lot of people use the M frame. Ive got some prescription Juliets that i really like. They keep the wind out of my eyes fine. You will pay a lot for them, $400-$500, but they are worth it. Nicest pair of glasses ive ever owned.

Go try some on and see if they are for you.

Oakley lenses are so far superior than anything else out there that if you are looking for great optics, there is no other choice.

I was thinking about getting some Rudy Project sunglasses with the prescription lenses in the frame (not inserts). Does anyone know anything about the quality of those?

Spy can be rx-ed in the frame, Rudy's have the inserts. Quality all depends on who you have make 'em or who the company farms it out to. For Spys, you can even go to Wally World and have them make up lenses for you. They also now offer presecription lenses from Spy.

I have Bolle Paroles and like them.

I have Rudy Project -Perception, it has prescriptions lenses with clipon colour lenses that you can change. They are very good but slightly heavy compared to Oakey. Most of the time I just use it without the clipon. I think this model is the only one that is non inserts. You have to make sure that the clipons does not rest on your cheeks otherwise it can be painful after a few hours. My optometrist has to shave the corners off. Still looks great!

RP has frames available with Rx direct in frame. Check out e-rudy.com. Your Rx will depend if frame can hold them. Keja model has 3 different frame types to hold different Rx. Oakley also has several frames that will take Rx direct in frame. Again depends on your Rx. The only problem with on line ordering if you don't know what th frame looks like on you. Good luck

I too have used the Bolle Paroles for over 5 years now. I got the insert frame and had the lenses done at the local Walmart eyeglasses store. I didn't wear bifocals at the time so had single-vision lenses cut. Now that I have bifocals for my regular glasses, I'm going to get them ground so I can read a map and little details better. The single vision is OK for road riding since I don't look at detail that much but everyone's prescription is different. I had one doctor (lens specialist) tell me that the insert frames were too narrow to "fit" bifocals in there, but I have a friend that did it on the identical glasses and hasn't had a problem.

They are not as nicely made as Oakleys, but then I didn't want to take a second-mortgage to afford glasses despite Oakleys being a top notch product.

Smith Moab's are a good choice too as you get 3 different lenses for different light conditions and your prescription fits nicely behind them, also they are much less expensive than Oakleys.

I have to second the Smiths.. I jsut picked up s a pair of Mainline Sliders... got an incredible deal thru work here (free from the vendor !) I need to see abotu getting an RX insert or something since my left eye is jacked up (farsighted with astigmatism) ... Who should I find out more info from ?? my Eye Dr., or thru Smith ?

I'm thiniing of going with the Oakley M-Frames, like the baseball players wear. Anyone have a particular Oakley lens they like for cycling?
