Foo - Turbo Tax SUCKS!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Thanks, I feel better.
After spending weeks debating whether to pay somebody to do our taxes this year or to go with Turbo Tax Home and Business, we made the mistake of going with Turbo Tax. Problem is that it won't even update. There are 14 updates available and it won't get them.
I've googled the error codes and tried all the suggested fixes. Two hours later it still doesn't work. Amazing! I'm sayin' screw it and calling a human being tomorrow.

I had the same problem last year and this year as well. I cant use TT on my desktop, for some reason it won't run. It only runs on my laptop. Granted, my desktop is a clone, and is prone to funky stuff going on given the different components of it, but it runs fine on my HP laptop.
I'm gonna run mine back to the store to get my money back tomorrow. That should fix it. We have used Turbo tax for the last 7 or 8 years with no trouble. But now we've hit a wall. This willl be my last year wasting money on their crappy products.

Good luck, Portis.
Lately when I call anywhere for "customer support," I wind up talkin' with someone in India who is reading a list of places on the company website where I can find answers. And, natch, being a modestly semi-intelligent person, I've already tried those possible solutions! [/rant]
And the Anti-Virus software company shall remain Nameless. Lest someone there attack me on, yes, say it, DIALUP.

Urm. Good luck. Seriously. This is why I have a CPA, which is tax-deductible, if you itemize. :)

I actually have had good luck with turbo tax, but I will never buy the program.
I always use the online version, it works great and updates as I need it.
Buying the software and then trying to update sucks. (oh and it costs more)
Well, i need the home and business edition so that is out of the question for me. Wait, maybe it isn't?

I've used turbo tax's web site for five years running now, and it's a beauty, no worries here....

You may even be able use Turbo Tax on the web for free if you have State Farm insurance.
If you sign onto the State Farm website, for many people, there is a link named "free tax filiing" on the left side of the screen which will link through to the Turbo Tax web site. The trick is that every time you go to do your taxes, you need to go to the turbo tax website by first signing on through State Farm. If you sign directly into the Turbo Tax website, it may convert your account from free to chargable.

http://www.taxact.com/ is supposed to be better than Turbo Tax, and is supposed to work for us self employed people who need the extra schedules.
Been using TaxCut for something like 8 years now, and have never had a problem.

You know, paper and a pen works just fine for me. :D
TurboTax works OK for me now, as I installed it on pretty much a standalone machine whose job it is to be a workstation for family when they drop by, and where the machine has pretty much no software other than the basics (NAV Corporate Edition, Office.) Nice thing, with VMWare Server, the machine is always useful for something.

Just found a new tax prep guy that can cut my tax return bill by half. I'm happy with that. :D
We just buy the new version every year because it's been really good and easy to use and Costco gives a pretty good discount coupon for it every year. :)

I've used taxact.com for the past two years. It has worked flawlessly for me, and its cheap $$. I file a plain-jane W2 based return with a standard deduction.

I have Taxcut from H&R Block. They sent free cd and it works great. Very easy too. Although last year in using the H&R Block free service I had the refund in 10 days. I am still waiting for the check w/ taxcut and it has been 3 weeks now. < irritated >
