There was a thread here recently that drew much ire from many about the Carbonello ad from Litespeed. Just got the recent Velo news buyers guide issue and noticed a new ad. Shows a Cheetah on a Litespeed chasing an antelope. Seen it? I thought that one was pretty good.

See now, That's creative advertising that doesn't stoop to insults or degradation.

But, it is insulting to the cheetah.

Funny thing is, cheetahs generally don't take their complaints to the media.

Thing is, though, a cheetah could have caught an antelope anyway, so what does the ad prove? Shouldn't the antelope be the one on the Litespeed to get away from the cheetah?

I think the ad was targeted at runners interested in cross training to increase their speed.

A cheetah has little mass, and thus has great acceleration when at max throttle... however, the cheetah pays a price; first... energy stores are not sufficient for a prolonged chase; second... the cheetah's bones are light and fragile. Thus the animal has to make a careful choice... he can't go for the fastest and most tenacious (healthiest) or continue a chase that gets into difficult territory or lasts too long... so they don't catch much. Old tired predators (like me) don't catch anything.

The cheetah would benefit from a form of transport that would accelerate well, is durable, and allows his limited energy to last. A Litespeed wouldn't be such a bad choice, as long as it hunted on trails or on the road.

Care to make that sales pitch to a cheetah? Maybe you could get a job with Litespeed. ;)

I just know that if I were a cheetah, I'd buy a Litespeed.

Wait...I did buy a Litespeed.

Am I a cheetah?

Sweet.

Cheetahs don't ride bikes, russian bears and chinese acrobats do. They should have had a bear on it chasing a herd of acrobats.

Sadly, riding my Litespeed won't even get me close to being a cheetah. Especially considering the description above.

All I know is that mine's comfortable. That's important for us old, tired (and not so light massed) predators!

Is selling a Litespeed to a cheetah anything like selling a refrigerator to an Eskimo?

Wow, people are mad about the Carbonello stickers!?!? OMFG!! I thought it was hilarious. I'll have to look up the thread. I hear things like that and I want to put those stickers on my bike just to piss people off. hahaha!!

But it did what it was supposed to do. A lot of people are talking about Litespeed! Great marketing! :D

Meh. Looks like cheetah is sucking wheel, uh, tail.

Interestingly, Foo, there is an identical thread in Road Cycling. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=271128

I invite you all to read it, and note the difference between postings over there, and those here on this thread, for the same topic!

Is that a current ad? I thought Litespeed was bagging on all technology that wasn't titanium...They bagged on their full-carbon bike just last year, and their entire 2007 line was supposed to be just Ti.

But, what do I care, I have one of their Alu/Carb monstrosities...which I love.

You would think they might ride Leopard Cycles (http://www.leopardcycles.com/)

That is sooo condescending.

No really though. I thought the Carbonello add was awesome. Some people need to unbunch their panties a bit.

The one featured here is the ad from 2002, the new one is actually updated with a cheetah on a titanium Vortex.

Blue Stars....ATTACK!
I hear that hunters need Litespeeds in order to attack their prey. So the cheetah told me.

For some reason, that sounds like a line out of a kid's action show:
