It can be miserable when the snow gets deep, but the past few weeks have been great. Lots of 10-20f days with clear skies

I hate riding in snow -- in fact, if I have a choice, I won't do it -- but I love riding in winter

...although I love riding in warm weather more!

Winter riding is different - so it's a great break from the routine of summer. For my dollar, riding in the cold/snow beats riding the trainer every time. You can also work on your handling skills on the slick stuff. It's really win/win!

I'm completely spoiled. This morning I went back through an alley and there's a cow moose with her calf in tow, munching on garden shrubs.

A cold crisp day with the sun shinning is good enough day for me.

I've been really appreciating the "inadvertant training" I'm getting from riding throughout the New York winter. I kept riding, only missed one weekend since September, averaging 100 miles a week...and feeling like I suck, because my average speed has dropped by 2 or 3 mph ever since the weather got cold.

Then I read about how air density at low tempeartures can slow you down by 15 to 30% (!?!?!)

And sure enough, on a vacation to the Arizona desert two weeks ago, my average speed was 3-5 mph FASTER than it had been back in November! So now when I go out in the cold & have what seems like a crappy ride, I just remind myself that I'm getting stronger.

Still doesn't make me love winter riding though.

I love snow!

I'll go singletrack and mountain biking in the snow.

I'll commute in the snow (with boulders!)

I'll even go shopping for groceries (and TP) in the snow.

During the last Cleveland storm I was passing traffic all the way home.
I thought about stopping and riding the bus because the head wind and deep snow were making it very difficult to pedal (fixed gear) then I passed the bus and decided to finish the ride.

Enjoy

I dont mind riding in the winter, or the snow. The only thing that annoys me is the days I have to take off riding due to the fact that the cars can't handle the snow. Me being able to stop on a dime on studded tires is no good if the car behind me is gonna slide and slam into me :(

Riding to work today in a blizzard, was spectacular. I loved how the bright snow caped the dark branches of the trees. Sounds were muffled, and most everything was still, as I looped around an area lake. All of my favorite rides have been in the winter. Alas, some of the worst have been too. I may die, riding home through thick snow, tonight, but it will have been worth it.

When you need to get a mass quantity of Scott tissue, you do what you gotta do.

i have bin riding with big nobbys[26x1.95 KENDA ] nothing fancy , no studs etc, and i have bin able to cover ice, slush, powdered snow and the like, i guess i have bin lucky, like today -28 with wind, no problems with chain, derailer etc, and it was a 12k comute, with hills and all.
