No, I can't remember what the "standard" size is (12 mm?), but that worked for the four Deep V wheels I've build.

Standard nipples are fine. The hard part is getting them through the rim without getting them lost inside it. I used a spare spoke and threaded it from the other end to feed it through.

Yeah, good point. I use a toothpick. Thread it on, then yank it out. One toothpick will last for a whole wheel.
