Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - off-the-shelf single speed w/ freewheel hub?

Does any major bike manufacturer make a stock single-speed, reasonably light, drop bars, front & rear brakes, that is reasonably easy to find in a typical LBS? (or, even better, eBay or Craig's List?) Basically something as ubiquitous and easy to describe as a Bianchi Pista, albeit w/ a freehub rather than fixed?

If there is a bike that you like that is fixed gear, you can take off the fixed cog and put a BMX freewheel on it.

Cannondale capo w/ bmx freewheel would be reasonably light, and a nice looking bike as well.

harris cyclery has a singlespeed cog you can put on a freehub, so any singlespeed cranks + road frame you like = nice singlespeed.

bianchi also makes a cross bike i've forgotten the name of that i really like...the geometry's nothing special, but if you want thicker 700c knobbies, fenders, and disc brakes, it's quite nice. i'll figure out the name.

redline 925 is an all right commuter-style bike with a fixed/free flip flop hub.

which reminds me--just what are your standards and intentions? that'll help narrow down the field for recommendations.

edit: there are a few things in the OP, i just mean...are you looking for a commuter style bike, or something that's going to be functional and aesthetically pleasing...how many miles do you ride, etc...how you're going to use a bike determines so much of what you need in one.

Bianchi pista/langster/whatever + f/r brakes + BMX freewheel.

If you want a singlespeed freehub (rather than a bmx freewheel), then it'd probably be better to buy a fixed gear bike, sell the rear wheel to someone looking to convert, and put a freehub wheel back on. I don't know of any off-the-shelf road style bikes with a freehub, but they're pretty cheap, and it'd be a trivial swap.

Let me just say once again that any bike that is advertised as a fixed gear and has front and rear brakes can be made a SS by threading on a BMX freewheel, which usually costs less than $20. Visit the budget bikes thread and see a bunch of options. Also:
