This rig just appeared on the Los Angeles CL list. I'm thinking its a late 70's, shraeder valves and the DT shifters are clamp-on rather than brazed on. If one were looking for a mid-80's 912, which distinguishing components would be on the bike? Braze-on DT shifters, 700c wheels, which component groupo?

Seems odd to me, too much of a mix. I have an early 80's (according to T-Mar) 912 w/ a full Shimano 600"Arabesque" Gruppo. Even the headset matches. Shift levers still use the DT clamp, not braze-ons. Hubs are Shimano 600 w/ oil hole clips, Rims are Araya presta 700c .

It says "Shogun Japan" under the last picture. A repainted Shogun perhaps? Sounds fishy to me.

Too bad T-Mar is on vacation, but this bike doesn't look right for a Miyata 912. That would be 'top-of-the-range" and this looks like a few steps lower on the food chain to me. It's odd that the script "Nine Twelve" on the top tube is done in the early Miyata fashion, but...still smells like a forgery. Who the *&$%# would forge a Miyata???

maybe it was a frame that was, built up with various components. i also see that there is no headbadge.
