Upside- they're really light, even in the bigger sizes. Grip well.

Downside- because they're so light, they wear fast, and pinch flat easily if you're not real careful about putting air in them. The kevar belt is ok, not the best.

Overall, they're one of the better tires available in 27".

I got 6,500 miles out of the last pair and the threads on the bead protection tape started coming apart, there was plenty of tread left. I wear out 23mm racing tires in less than 2,000 sometimes. The Panarcers are light and fast. The TG kevlar belt is worth it. It helps a lot with flat reduction. Over all the tires are not rugged for bashing around, they are fast road tires. I have had a few sets.

I've got the 700x35 pasellas, they're very grippy and in that size very cushy too. I can't tell if they're light because of the weight of the rest of my bike, but I've been 100% pleased with them.

Does anyone know how big the 700*28 Pasela TG's are? Are they an "honest" 28 or a bit smaller? I'm asking because i want to figure out whether i can fit them under my fenders.

Would you guys who have the pasellas recommend putting 27 1/8 on 27 1/4 rim, or do you think that might be too much of strain on the side walls ?

I put 2500 miles on a pair of 27 x 1/18" Pasela tgs before developing a tear in the sidewall on one of them. The tread wasn't nearly worn out. I think I only got one flat. You'll probably damage the sidewall before wearing out the tread. Overall, its a good tire for the $, and I would not hesitate to buy another pair.

However, I replaced them with Continental Ultrasports, also 27 x 1 1/8". The ultrasports are a little fatter than the pasela tgs and they slighly rub my fenders when grit sticks on the tire. Otherwise, I've had good luck with these too but I've only gone ~150 miles on them...not much of a test.

I have 27 x 1 1/8s on Sun CR18 rims. I don't know the bead width, but you could look it up. Its definately wider than a typical road rim, and the tire fits just fine. If you have a similar rim or narrower, go for it.

check out the serfas seca tires. i ran them for a while on my touring bike turned single speed turned fixed gear and they were amazing. ive run a bunch of other tires since then but non have seemed as nice as the serfas.

They don't look like they have too much traction though. They look kinda wide, are they. I love Serfas they have such a great return policy and products.

Keep in mind that with 27's it's a bit more finicky than with 700c. A 27 1 1/8 should work okay on a 27x 1 1/4, but I wouldn't go any smaller. You start to have problems with the bead engaging the hook properly. ON the flip side, if you can find some old narrow width 27" rims, I think you will be stoked at the difference in running 27x1 or 27x7/8.

does anyone even make 27x1s or narrower anymore? I have a pair of vintage 27" french rims that I'd love to build up and run with narrow tires.

Harris sells some avocet 27x7/8 tires (on sale for $12 actually), as well as some 27x1 paselas.

I'm fretting over tubes. Right now I'm inclined towards Michelins but have no idea what/how to choose. Do they all come from the same Butyl tree?

It depends on your wheel width a little bit.

Rivendell says the 35 is more like a 32. This is consistent with my experience with the panaracer-made performance brand tires, I have a "25" that measures about 21.

I had the same problem - I loved that they were really light and felt supple, plus were very fast, but I got tons of flats when I ran them on a commuter mountain bike, and threw both of them away way before the tread wore out - sidewall cuts galore, the last ones over an inch long and torn along the sidewall threads.

For happy tires in 26x1.25", I've had really good luck with the IRC Metros.
