Touring - Combine Ultegra road shifters with XT rear derailleur?

I want to use my Ultegra 9spd shifter/brake levers with a wide range Shimano XT M760 rear derailleur on a light touring bike I am building-are they compatible.? I'm pretty sure the answer to this is "yes" but just checking. Thanks.

MTN rear derailers are compatible with road and MTN shifters.

Yes, they are compatible. But, since this particular derailleur is low normal, your shift lever actions will be reversed.

I personally would use the traditionally sprung M750 rear derailleur, especially if you're accustomed to using STI's and use them on your other bike(s).....you don't want to confuse yourself with shift direction depending on which bike you're on.

You could also get a high normal derailleur and keep that as a spare.

This is the combo I'm currently using BTW, and it works as well as my 105 9-spd long cage derailleur worked, but handles the 11/32 cassette.

My Burley has Ultegra STI and XTR rear derailleur.

I use a Ultegra triple front der. with this combination
