Foo - now I understand why I dislike my job so much....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's not the work environment so much as it's the people who I have to deal with.
....namely nobody listens to a damn word I say.
"Dude, stop hitting the neter key, that's why the machine is giving you errors....scan, then lef-t click "OK"
*alright.....(smackes enter key again)*
"ARRRRGH!"
then some guy knows he needs card X, then puts card Y in instead....then when putting in Card X (after I tlaked to him about it), he notices the eject levers aren't coming out all the way, so instead of figuring out why, he just pulls....now I have to RMA a $4000 card because he ripped the eject levers off....
Then we have the guys who know you must screw in both screws when hooking up the console cables....but they kep screwing on one, and we just lost an hour of test time from this.......grr....
Let's put it this way, I'm pretty sure even the Dali Lama would go postal in this place....now I understand why out of work people say I'm a really calm person, but in work I come off as anger incarnate.
....so, are there any good drugs I can put into the coffee supply that will make people actually listen to good advice, and not just ignore it and continue to screw everything up?
No, but Ex-Lax brownies would be a hoot! :D
I keep saying: I wish we didn't have users. Our lives would be so much simpler. :p

Yep in the same place, I don't hate my work, its the people around me sometimes.
We have too many people here that like to drum up drama and start problems cause they don't have enough to do.

LOL....we have a couple of test engineers who routinely forget their ESD smocks, grab cards when not strapped in, have arleady fried at least 3 or 4 cards for various reasons.....
I feel the pain....though not quite as bad, as I'm not directly involved as you are. I'm like the customer...just give me good cards so I can code something you buffoon!!

I just started telecommuting for the job I've been at the last year (systems engineer for an airline). I'm in my second week, and it couldn't be better. The drama and day-to-day antics are much reduced, and I'm considerably more productive. I still have to deal with end users on a daily basis, but getting out of the office environment may be the best work-related decision I've ever made.

I wished I could do that. But I deal with client, lawyers, courts and it requires me to be at the office. I just have learned not to share any personal information about myself with others. :)

It's still not mainstream enough for most people to be able to. I only got the benefit because I turned in my notice to take a really good offer at a company I had previously worked for. They asked me here what it would take to keep me, and I gave them a pretty big list, in hopes that they'd drop it. Instead, they agreed.
Two weeks later I'm 1500 miles away and loving it.

I know that if I worked with someone who was "helping" me and they told me to not hit the 'neter' key, then lef-t click (?), then smackes, then tlaked to me about it, I'd have a hard time keping myself from going postal.

I don't really understand what is so hard about listening and following instructions. Do some people just have something they need to prove?

Do what I do, I just tell people before they start that I am feeling a bit fragile - therefore make stupid mistakes at your own risk.
It seems to work well.
Once, I was working with a person who seemed to be scaring people - my wife was working at the same place as me at the time and I asked what she thought. She said everyone knows he is just kidding, they don't take it too serious - however, you they are afraid of!
But I am such a nice guy - (nevermind feeding almendro to a certain termite )

When they asked me where I intended to move, I said Costa Rica. They didn't think that would work out quite as smoothly, and asked that I stay in the continental US. Probably for the best though, I don't speak a lick of Spanish.
Good work. Good people. I win.

When I decided to move to Costa Rica, I went into the office of the VP of engineering and informed that I would be living in Costa Rica in 3 months (gave a date) - he asked if that meant I was quiting, I said no, not unless you decide to stop sending checks. They asked where to send them. :)

You sir, have cojones. I wouldn't have had the guts to do that if I didn't have something else better lined up.

I have power and resources. I don't have to work anymore and they are aware of it. They need me a lot more than I need them.
Nancy Reagan had it all right when she said "Users are losers" more than 20 years ago, didn't she?

So in by stating that Catatonic is calm, that would mean I'm out of work? If so, that would be the best way of curing my coworker woes.

most folks are impatient and those are the one's i can't stand to work with.
funny that it's human interaction, not so much the tasks that decides whether we like our jobs or not.
as an aside: i talked to the ceo of our company yesterday. i was nice to chat about leadership issues around the office with him and that he agreed and validated my concerns. then said i'm gonna get a raise for all the great work i've been doing. yee haw! i like my job today!

Nah, computers. I was pretty agitated when I made this thread. I work in an electronics manufacturing plant.
Thing is we needed people to do the production....however the company doesn't realize when I said we need A+ trained people that I meant that was a baseline (we need a technician, not an associate). So now I have to train people who know nothing at all about computers, since the management can't even understand the words "we need A+ certified technicians for this line".
Fortunately we found one qualified person out of the lot.....he was an electrical engineer when he lived back in eastern europe (Military trained)....he's great for the most part, reminds me of myself when I started this product. The rest of the guys piss me off so bad, just because it's not a casual mistake....they each do between 8-15 O.E.s (Operator Errors) per shift....that's ridiculous. That's why I may ride them a bit hard...I can tell them to turn off a machine, and they just stare at me, then about 2 mins later ask me if they are supposed to turn it off.
Reason we got that one well trained guy....he's the type that if he gets bored with a job he will no longer improve with it. Fortunately this line has so much to learn that he will never have a day without learning something. I've been with this product for almost 8 years now and I'm still learning new stuff.

Very cool man, very cool!
I try my best to be patient with everyone...people not paying attention really bothers me, especially when they are being paid to pay attention.
If you can have some weirdo preach fire and brimstone, then try to pull some "vision" crap on you, and just sit there calmly waiting for him to leave for about an hour and a half (this was in the middle of a bikeshop back in california...the management just let him do his thing, because he wasn't violent...jsut annoying...they joked about it with me for quite some time)...you have my level of patience.
