Does it have to be a cabinet? You said it would be infrequent; you could get one of those Sears (or what have you) gravity fed sand blaster, like this one (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=SEARS&sid=BVx20060707x0000001&pid=00916706000), and set yourself somewhere outside.

Here's a source, but I don't see anything that I'd call inexpensive. You might be able to find plans for a home made cabinet.

Thanks. Actually I bought my media from Eastwood, originally to do some work on a little Italian car. I have been blasting outside, but it makes a big mess, and even with a tarp to recover spent media I 'm still losing a lot of it. Stuff gets all over, in my hair, etc, and I'm sure it's not environmentally friendly. Harbor Freight has some that I think are just a little too small, but I may have to take my next old frame in and try.

Thanks, $500 is still more than I'd like to spend but I haven't come across anything cheaper. My best bet might be to find someone in town to do them for me since I don't paint that often.

You can make a box out of MDF or plywood. Put a draw fan on one side, you can even use a cheap box fan, in a stepped box(small box stuck to a big box). Put a HVAC filter on the draw side of the fan*. This will stop most of the grit for recovery . You need to be careful when sandblasting, silicosis is bad. Use a respirator.
