Anybody got safe road routes around Dallas Texas? I'm really wanting to try out my road bike with some distance riding (and White Rock doesn't do it). Farm-Market roads would be great, but I'm a LITTLE paranoid of the car/pick-em-up/SUV traffic. These could be weekend OR weekday rides. I sure do appreciate it. If you have a specific route, please send the directions in a PM.

Check the Plano Bicycle Association site for routes with maps: http://www.planobicycle.org/pba/

You might consider riding with groups such as PBA as there is safety in numbers.

I appreciate the info about Plano BA. I normally don't do group rides cuz of the competition/cadence/pacing thing, but I did see "no drop" rides listed. Not looking to get in shape or train for anything, but do want to know what this bike can do and what I can do on this bike. SOME day I'll get some pictures of it posted in the Vintage thread. Need to polish it up, first.

Jim, I did the PBA 8 o'clock ride on my vintage bikes before, though I'd likely suggest going with the Distance Builder group instead as they are a no-drop and the speeds are a little lower. The Rides out of RBM on Saturday morning are also good, either the 27 or 36mi rides both are a pretty vintage safe pace. I rode the 27mi route all last summer on my Gazelle with downtubes and would see a number of other vintage riders pretty regularly.
