tonight my ultegra hub started slipping a little every 2 pedal turns. my assumption is that it's one of the spring-loaded teeth in the freewheel mechanism (sorry i don't know if they have a technical term). maybe the tooth is worn down/broken? more likely i would guess the spring broke..? is this repairable? worth the cost? able to be done myself? is it even what i think it might be? thanks.

You can get a new freehub body installed on the hub.
Sometimes a freehub will come good with a flushing with solvent and re-lubing. Otherwise its a new freehub body, but at least with a Shimano you can get just the freehub and not have to re-lace to a whole new hub.

In the $25-45 range, depending on component group level (i.e. an Ultegra will be close to the high end).
There are plenty available for under $30.
Oh, and you'll need a 10mm hex wrench to remove the fixing bolt.
