I know there was a thread discussing this already, but I can’t find it, so I’ll ask what may be a duplicate question.

Talking to the guy at the health food store yesterday about protein powder. He seemed to know what he was talking about and told me men ought to stay away from soy protein. Soy is harder for men to break down and may boost estrogen levels.

Told me to use whey instead.

Anyone have learned comments on this? Should I cut down on soy milk too?

Soy milk will have hormones. As will meat, and vegetables and fish. You could try
eating dirt.

Btw, I don't think soy protein powder will have more than microscopic amounts of hormone.

His statement is true. Soy milk has been in many studies and eating too much soy will boost male estrogen levels. However.. if you are drinking only 1 glass of soy milk per day.. or 1 protein shake... you wont run into these problems. Soy in moderation is fine for men.

Your body evolved to deal with a wide variety of hormones. They are, after all, in basically everything you eat. Typically, if there is ANY reaction, it lasts a day or two.
Then your body figures out what is going on and ignores it.

I too was told this at a health food store. I immediately discounted it due to the source. I tried soy milk years ago and after about 8 days it made me sick. Repeated trying it three times to be sure. I use almond milk which agrees with me and is a good substitute for cow's milk in my cereal.

Here's the dangers of soy from the Weston A Price Foundation,

http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.html

Excess estrogen ISN'T at the top of the list so lots more to be concerned about with soy.

As always, moderation is key.
