Another noisy thread...

I have a Ciclosport CM212 computer. It suits me fine, except for one issue: noise :irritated. As soon as the road gets less than absolutely smooth, the 'puter starts to rattle. Maybe I am overreacting :o or do I have a bad case of audio-allergy, but I would like my rides to be as silent as possible. (Thank God for Shimano STI levers! :irritated)

The rattle is probably by design: I have returned the first CM212 to the OBS (on-line bike shop) and got a new one. It is just as loud. :crash:

The rattle gets less, but does not disappear, if I hold my fingers against both buttons (meanwhile I have put some tape over them) or clamp my hand around the entire 'puter.

Any cheap tricks to silence a CM212?

Is the computer making the noise electronically or is it mechanical, like something loose inside or on the mount? Check to see if the mount is tight and that it's not something else on you bar. Try taking the computer off and gently shaking it next to your ear. I don't know other than that. Computers shouldn't make noise.

I had what sounds like a similar problem with one of my old Cateye Micro computers. When the computer slid into the mount it was not tight enough and would rattle. Of course, pushing down on it with a finger would stop the rattling.

High tech solution: a short piece of toothpick wedged between computer and mount, being careful not to interfere with the electrical connection.

Hi Iamlucky13 and Louis! Thanks for your input.

The noise is not computer-generated, but mechanical. The mount is tight; the computer sits firmly in the mount. The Ciclosport people got that part of the design/construction right.

I can make the 'puter rattle when its not on the bike, by shaking it. So the 'puter is the source of the noise.

Unfortunately, the housing cannot be opened (without damaging it)...
