I know it sounds like a Merton question, but I have photographic evidence here.
Every now and again, when I look in the studio's freezer, one of the ice cube is not like the others.
I got 'em on camera this time. One lone cube just reaching for the sky.
I have theories as to why this may occur that involve convection currents, and turbulence from the freezer's fan, but the one that seems most plausible to me is: I don't think the bulb is going out when the freezer door shuts, and on the quantum level some ice cube are similar to moths, and are inexplicably drawn to the light.

Missed that thread, sorry.

Ice spikes are caused by freezing distilled h2o....ok that explains things. I'll use the distilled water around here to fill up the trays because I don't like the taste of chlorinated tap water.

I agree, we might have to get an exorcist for AllenG's freezer.

Great idea! We should film it, then release it as a blockbuster hit! :)

I get that in my ice trays. The spikes are not quite as large but about %75. I am not using distilled water.

Sometimes, when I'm not looking, my ice cubes have a little frozen rave in my fridge. One of them runs over and opens/shuts the door really quick to get the strobe effect, and they even listen to Moby.

Don't ask how I know this, but it's true, man.

That is very cool. You know too that it is not possible to prove that if I drop a baseball it will not go up.

The technical term is an "erection".

If you get distilled water and a clean cup, you can also try superfreezing water.
