Mountain Biking - Building a Teeer Tawter

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey my friends and I are building some sweet bridges and drops in the woods behind his house and we want to add a teeter tawter in to the mix. I was wondering if any one had any suggestions on how to build one. Cheers:beer:

There are several techniques to building teeters...I don't have my favorites at work but can post something later. One suggestion would be to go to www.nsmb.com and peruse their trail maintenance subforum. It will be very helpful as many people ask this question. :)
The easiest one I have seen is find a log as the apex and use whatever platform you intend to us. Bold it (using bolts allows for an change later) onto the apex. Use stakes 1 on either side of the apex and on both sides of the plank (this isn't making a lot of sense except in my head) to hold the apex in one position and allow it to roll in place...
haha check nsmb and when I get home I will post a couple of sites I know of. :)

Make it rickety, put in multiple fulcrums and don't wear a helmet!
;)
thats to much! Nice pic, Ya know im tring so hard to put "how to build the best teeter into words! I cant lmao, but if you can make two triangles out of logs and notch the top of them, take a flat peice of wood and nail a thick round log that will be accepted into your notches, nail the log to the flat board approx 9 inches from center do give you "dropback" you should be in business! I know this probably wont make sence to many people lol, but, if you can i bet you make a teeter! and the worlds best teeter is the one you made yourself!

Sorry none of my tutorials have how to build it. Really it is a simple concept...a plank, an apex of some kind. Hold to apex in place so it only rolls but doesn't move side to side.

around where i use to live they made a triagle out of angle iorn for the base (folcrum) and used a two by six for the plank with two pipes and mounts to form a pivot. it was well made, better be safe and over build it than to have you, your friends or even worse... some other person break it and have them screw themselves up
