Foo - crtreedude! Are you interested?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just came across an ad for something called the World Challenge, and was thinking of nominating Finca Leola. It seems that what you're doing is exactly what they are looking for... What do you think?

I wasn't sure if you wanted to participate, so I haven't nominated you yet -- plus, it requires some contact information that I don't have. I posted this here instead of sending a PM so all the Foosters can goad you into entering! ;)

Oh, gbcb, that's a great idea! Well, crtreedude? We're waiting. <goad, goad>
[Note: By the way, I saw what happened in Limon. What's your take, crtd? I mean, that group was defending itself, right? I feel rather conflicted, but, as I understand it, the former U.S. military guy didn't mean to kill that perp, only to subdue him by breaking his clavicle. At least that's the news we had here....]

I believe that Shell (BP), like Mobil, has a renewable energy research arm. I attempted to work with both at one point early in my career....

Sure, but it's just an exit strategy, like how the tobacco companies diversified into food and beverages when they saw the handwriting on the wall. And BTW, Shell and BP are both way ahead of the US oil companies like eXXon-mobile when it comes to alternative energy research and development.

Yeah, I was pursuing BP as an employer for alternative energy back in 1993! :)
But, in the interim, I've been working in the general consulting field, which has been for me, focused on air-pollution-control (APC) retrofits for coal-fired and municipal-waste-incineration/steam-generation facilities.

Yeah, I thought so, too -- that's one of the reasons I didn't sign crtreedude up, just in case he has a big problem with Big Oil.
But, hey, better greenwashing than no washing at all. And since they're doing this already, why not try to get crtreedude $20k in the process? :D

+1 gbcb.
Bottom line is: the world demands energy. It's not a trivial thing to supply if you have a background in it. There is certainly an ideal, but there is also a reality. I won't say more lest this gets kicked to the P&R netherregions.
Let's just get crtd some $$$, and have a big Foo Party in the jungles of CR! :D ;)

I was thinking he should be nominated for this award: http://www.etown.org/awards.about.shtml
not a cash award, but nice recognition for the work he's doing.
No reason he can't do both!

So how's business? Are they buying and installing, or just opting out of retrofits until they're slapped with a lawsuit? (Since there doesn't seem to be any federal enforcement of the Clean Air Act these days)

Guess I should have said "had been working." I left my job three years ago. Don't know the answer to your question. <shrug>

(Since there doesn't seem to be any federal enforcement of the Clean Air Act these days)There are still plenty of coal-fired (TVA) smokestacks billowing in the Tennessee Valley. If air pollution ever becomes a priority, it will be business for someone.
While I'm here, I'm going to bump this -- just in case.
