I have IT band problems in my kneww (diagnosed), and am following some stretches. And while I don;t feel the pain like I used to (under my kneecap and to the left, I tend to feel pain down my tendon, and sometmes down the side of my calf. Is this a normal response to the stretching or am I overdoing it (though I don;t feel I am - maybe only doing it 5-10 mins a day).

Get a foam roller. God knows I spend a hell of alot more time than that taking care of my IT bands, and its the only thing that really helps.

This is good advice...
Lie on side, roller under your thigh and pull yourself up and down the said roller.
Works a treat.
Personally I use my wifes rolling pin, that really hits the spot:eek:

Thanks for that. I've heard people mention foam rollers.

I don;t suppose anyone has a link to something that's suitable. I'm in the UK, but an example from anywhere is fine, just so I know what I'm looking for here.

DesFlurane, does the rolling pin really work?

Just tried it with the rollingpin, and blimey, it seems to hit the spot. Can I just check I'm doing it properly, though. I'm putting it under the lower quarter of my leg, then lifting my weight on my elbow and ankle and moving my body up and down. I'm putting weight on until it hurts, but not ridiculously so - the same kind of hurt as when get behind your knees when you touch your toes.
How does that sound?
