On a quest to find the best stopping brake pads for my Twenty (and my Peugeot) with the least amount of cruddy dust; The ones I have at the moment deposit a fine graphite-like dust that gets everywhere and is really hard to get off your hands if you are handling the bike to fold it or whatever.

I wondered if the good people here had any good recommendations for the sweet spot between good stopping ( I only have a front brake on my Twenty now its a fixie) and minimal deposits. I hear a lot of talk about Koolstop Salmon pads; Do they leave your forks all covered in brick dust?

I have Koolstop Salmon pads and they don't make much mess. The dust around the pads is gray. I suppose it may be aluminium dust from the rims. There isn't much of it considering how infrequently I clean the bike down. If I poke around the pads, I get a sort of 'pencil dust' film on my fingers. Inevitable I suppose.

I travel with bikes a fair amount. Brake dust on hotel carpets causes me more grief than any other aspect of keeping a bike in the room. I too would like a less visible, if not actually cleaner, brake pad.
