Foo - <RANT> Why can't eBay sellers leave feedback?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This really irk's me. I've bought and paid (promptly, PayPal) for an item on the 'bay. I've fullfilled my obligation as a buyer. The seller packed and shipped promptly. Cool, thank you. Now, where's my freakin' feedback?!?!?!
When we've sold on ebay, the buyer got their feedback immeditaly after we recieved their payment. Why not, they deserve it. Then we'd pack and ship, hoping to get a kind mark in return, which we did 99.9% of the time.
It's not difficult to fulfill that part of the obligation, less than 2 minutes to do and it pleases people to get it.
I contacted the seller early in the week stating that I've recieved the item and I'd be happy to leave him positive f/b after he's done so for me. Re replied, 'That sounds great'. So far no f/b. Fark ''em, I left a neutral, voicing my displeasure at not getting my f/b in a timely manner. I'm tired of not holding sellers accountable, I'm tired of rewarding their lazie-faire selling attitude. I'm acting out against the bastiges.and I don't give a flying fig if they reciprocate. I'll do more damage to them as a seller, then they'll do me as a buyer.

I keep emailing them until they leave feedback.
A lot of people will not leave feedback until you leave feedback that you are happy with the purchase.
I think we should leave negative for not using the feedback system.

I make it a point to never buy from those people again.
If they can't give feedback, then they should GTFO ebay.
I'm still pissed at the woman who claimed to have lost the item I won, then 6mos later put it back on auction....then did the same thing again since the winning bid wasn't as high as they liked. I showed that to ebay....seller got banned.
My dad bought a freakin CAR (91 Caddy Fleetwood) on ebay and they didn't give him feedback on the purchase even after he flew to another STATE and picked up and drove it home.

I think the lack of feedback is a function of people's lack of personal connection. If they knew you, they'd take 2 minutes to leave feedback. They don't know you, so why bother. It's akin to the personal service/interaction one gets at a small shop compared to, say, some large department store - the large department simply doesn't care, whereas the small local shop depends upon repeat business.
E-bay sellers who want repeat business leave feedback; buyers who really appreciate a seller's price, attentiveness, and service do the same.
On the other hand, some people are just plain rude.

I've made 3 purchases on ebay, and only received feedback from two of the sellers. On all three purchases, I paid within hours of winning the auction. I left positive feedback for the sellers after I received the shipments, at which time two of the sellers left positive feedback for me. The third one never did. I looked into ebay's rules, and there's nothing that requires the use of feedback, so I just let it go.

They wait to give you feedback until you leave them feedback so that they can retaliate with a negative feedback of their own. That's one of the major flaws with eBay's feedback system. I NEVER leave negative feedback for anyone if there is a chance that they can retaliate with one of their own. If I end up with a retaliatory negative feedback, I am left with that negative stigma.

I don't leave negs unless I get threatened or the person is just outright slimy. I will leave greys though.

That's crap. Why should I have to pester. They should just leave it and be done.

Exactly, he could be selling salvation for a penny and I wouldn't buy again.

Funny thing is a negative feedback dosen't hurt. It's not like getting the clap or something. Let him neg me, I don't care. I'll just point to what I left in a reply.
In the six or so years I've sold on eBay as a full time job, I got 9 negs in over 20,000 transactions. Not a single one did I deserve, they were ALL from assclowns who didn't have a clue. Of course, there were some transactions that I should have been negged on for glaring oversights... like swapping addresses on items and sendind something to MD that should have gone to CA. But we always did the right thing, we communicated with our customers, reimbursed them on the shipping... what ever it took to make things right. We did it. We loved our repeat customers and they us.
It's a shame the market is so overcrowded and soft now.

a volte non č poi un cosė gran peccato aspettare la primavera per farsi consegnare un 1098.
'sometimes it's not such a pity to wait for a 1098 to be delivered in spring..'
That's going to be such a pain to dig out. :D
I always leave positive feedback, or at worst neutral. Pretty much most people who have decent feedback are using ebay for their livelyhoods, and I don't want to stick black marks on it unless I really got shorted (which luckily has not happened so far.)
I also don't buy anything on ebay that I will be crying at nights if I lost totally.

You've got an excellent point. I can also understand how frustrated Stacey and others are because I would be, too. I think there are some people who can and do transcend the impersonal nature of the internet. I know I'm one. Foo seems to be a popular place for some of us. :)

I always leave feedback, whether I am a buyer or seller. That said, most of the larger guys wait for you to leave your feedback so they can retaliate accordingly ;)
