Mountain Biking - Mtb/bmx?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well last night we hit up the local BMX track with an invasion of mtb's. I tell you this, when gravity is on your side you realy do not notice a 35+ lb rig but when trying to sprint, clear step-ups that are 12' high and tables that are 10 to 15' long you sure as hell notice it.
It was a blast though and a few of us were able to keep up with some of the pro BMX'ers. We are going to star hitting the track every week now.
Another thing I noticed, BMX is definitly a sport for the entire family. There were fathers and mothers riding around with there kids having fun. The locals and the prs that ride there are all a tight little group and every one is friendly. Yeah, we got some shyte for being on mtb's but it was all in fun and when they saw us actually clearing the same jumps they were they seemed inpresed.
Soon as I got on the track it brought back memories of when I was 12-16 riding BMX and the competitive side started to come out but I had to keep my cool. When we used to practice as kids we were alot more aggresive then they are at this track. We used to go in to the turn with elbows flying, tires bumping and bars smacking. Since we are the new commers there I had to keep my self from doing that. Although, when it was just the guys with the mtb's it was a diff story. But I am just rambling now so maybe next time I'll finsh the story.

You ought to go in the morning. Its a well known fact that MTBers are more capable of waking up early than BMXers :D

A couple of years ago, I renewed (reapplied) for my NBL license and hit the local track with my 24" cruizer. Man, what fun! I'd forgotten how much of a sprint BMX tracks are. I was whupped by the end of the night!
The coolest thing I saw, was a recently turned 4 year old with a State #1 plate (meaning he raced as a 3 year old), doing a look down cross-up over a 6' table top!
BTW, our track is closed except for practice and race-day! Cool track though!

I know, but the track is only open for us heavy weights from 5 to 8pm.

There were a couple of national level riders there last night that were 6 and 7 years old and they smoked just about everybody. There was one kid who was 5 that was clearing both step-ups and all the tables and was a good 8' in the air over one of them(when he was showing off). What I thought was funny, towards the end of the night the little ones were getting tired and crashing all over the place but all they wanted was to keep riding. Got to love it.

I find it amusing that I for one would never ride a Haro mtb but they do make good BMX bikes.
Hey Mael, that is why I am building the ht. To practice on and do a little BMX and dj'ing. It is so different but yet the same.

I train on BMX tracks once in a while. It's funny to see the BMX'rs at the track I train at's jaws drop when I smoke them.

Due to my size I haven't found a bmx that really works for me. I may just buy a similar frame to what I have now but a couple of sizes smaller. Just to play on. :)

Thats what I did. Got a small ht because the BMX bikes just feel wayyyy to small. They were even to small for me as a kid:D
