Seriously late to the party...
Roundtrip commute Mt. Vernon to Ballston - 37 miles and seriously frustrated right now at having to drive to work.
Can't we get a giant crew together and clear just one lane of the Mt. Vernon, W&OD, Custis and 4 Mile Runs? Sigh.

Has anyone been out on the trails lately to see if there has been any signifcant melting over the last few days?. Like "bethbikes," I too am seriously frustrated by the snowy trail, but I don't live close enough to the trail itself to havea sense of when it will be clear enough to try. I'm hoping that todays rain and a couple more days of 40+ weather might do it. Anyone in a position to give a status update? Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

The 4 Mile Run Trail is across the street from my condo and I can catch a glimpse of the Mt Vernon Trail when crossing the river by train. Asphalt was starting to show this weekend on 4 Mile, and I saw a decent amount of asphalt this morning on Mt Vernon. Considering the rain today and that it will not drop below freezing tonight, I will most likely be peddling it tomorrow. Even if there is still some snow, I hope that it will be thin and mushy, which the 700x35 tires on my hybrid should be able to handle. It will be good to be riding again, but I REALLY want open, dry trails so that I can get back on my roadie. Someone asked the same question in a separate thread on this board; I will post a status in reply to it tomorrow.

For most of us coming from Arlington and riding into, the city the weakest link is the stretch of trail between Iwo Jima and Arlington Cemetery - to get over to the Memorial Bridge. I drove by on R 110 this Sunday and it was still under a lot of snow. Any idea if this is clear yet? Anyone ride this route today?

The ride was good yesterday. Only a couple of spots that required dismounting. Paths are carved in almost all of the snow spots still on the trail. There are a few spots that are really messy; the 4MiRun portion that run right next to Glebe road has a TON of road debris/asphalt bits/rocks on it.
That being said, I used the snowstorm that didn't happen and wind as an excuse not to ride today :) Kinda tired from being off the bike for a few weeks and pushing hard on my slow tires. Mostly, I'm just being a whiner.

Happy to report there is bare pavement from the East Falls Church Metro all the way to down town DC. Most of the path is completely clear, and where it isn't, it's clear enough to get by with no problem. Saddle up!

I'm headed to DC for the Summer for an internship and am only bringing my bike... no problem. I ride all the time here in Minneapolis. Here's my question:
I'm riding a couple gravel centuries before I come out and am registered to do a couple more when I get back three months later. Do you Northeasters -- or Nord-easters -- do gravel centuries? If so, can someone point me in the right direction.
We're starting to see pavement here, too. Winter sucks... my fingers are cold.

Yeah, I hope that the $500 the pawn shop gave ya was well-spent (that's a tenth of what they posted it on eBay for a month later).

I'm #312 on the list above but I've since moved from Laurel to Mt. Airy, MD. For those of you who aren't familiar with every wide-spot-in-the-road in MD, Mt. Airy is off I-70 between Fred-neck and Baltimore. I don't know how far out I'm allowed to live and still claim 'Metro DC' status but I work in Rockville so (as the weather warms) much of my riding will be done there.
