Guess where I am?

I'm at work!

Guess how I got here?

On my bike!

Guess what I am?

I'm Wide awake, alert enthusiastic! (sing with me) I'm awide awake alert enthusiastic! I'm awide awake alert, I'm awide awake alert, I'm awide awake alert enthusiastic! (come on.. admit you know the words....)

So anyway, just thought I'd let you all know that the first half of my first bike commute went perfectly. Sun was out this morning, and it was a great ride - under 10 km in just over 20 mins. Not bad...

Thanks all!

Darren

welcome to the club!

it's a really healthy addition:
* as safe or safer than driving to work (which you have to do anyway)
* inexpensive - a few bike tires and tubes, maybe some extra clothes, but money save in gas, parking, auto maintenance
* and health --- a great way to stay in shape and keep off the weight and keep your heart strong!

i biked in college, then became a car drone for almost 2 years. then started commuting occaisonally, then more... and before long i was a full-time commuter... and now i am even car free (a little easier in Germany i have to admit)

becoming a bike commuter was one of the best changes and best things to happen to my life. i start my day off with a bike ride and will always be in great shape! i expect to be bike commuting when i'm like 80 years old.

Welcome to the club.

BTW, I'm just about to step outside the office to check out the city-sponsored Ride To Work Day Bike Fest. Maybe I'll get a free water bottle or something!

Well, I'm back home now!

The ride home was pretty good. A little bit more of a headwind, and much more traffic, but I still managed the ride in 27 mins. I'm home at the same time (or maybe a bit earlier) than I would be if I had driven, as the traffic is awful at this time of day, and because I can take part of the Trans-Canada Trail, while the cars are stuck going the long way on the road. :)

This morning I got to work at about 7:20, and had a shower (coooold for the first couple minutes, but then warmed up). I was at my desk and ready to work at 7:40, which is 20 mins. before I usually get to the office. I think maybe tomorrow I'll get an extra 10 mins of sleep. :)

Overall, a very positive first commute. I'll keep you posted on my progress at least for the first couple of weeks. As I have no vehicle, I will probably be riding in the rain, unless I wimp out and call a co-worker for a ride...but I doubt I will do that unless it's REALLY raining, since it doesn't matter if I get wet - I shower at work anyway.

Guess that's it for today!

Make sure to tell us about tomorrow's commute on the "How Was The Commute Today?" thread.

it's great to have energy and feel alive in the morning... I always find it funny that I'm one of the few people at work who is wide awake, while others are stumbling towards the coffee pot ;)

Unfortunately I'm the opposite. I have a shower at home to wake up and shave, another one at work to rinse off the sweat (there's a few hills in my 5km commute) then I have breakfast and coffee. My brain is expected to arrive a couple of hours later.
