I need a new front wheel as mine has lost 5 spokes now and the hub has some nice gouges taken out of it.
I was thinking of a Macneil Hub (because of the recessed flanges for spoke protection) on a Red Proper Rim. How does this sound? Bear in mind that i'd much prefer a 14mm hub

Go with a 3/8ths, be a man. Macneil front hub sounds good. As for the rim, just get a haz light in purple.

3/8ths means that i need either 3 converters (i run a peg on the front) or a new pair of forks and a new peg. Ill stick to 14mm
Rim - I don't feel i need a hazard light, i'll go with the cheaper, better looking proper rim

I have a 14mm setup as well, but I don't really need it. I want to get 3/8ths but it would cause me to spend a great deal of money in a very short period of time.

I have 3/8th in the front, and run two 14mm adapters for my fork, nothing for the peg.
*keep in mind thats because of my style of riding

I run a 3/8 in a 14mm fork on my beater bike with no converters, and it holds up to some serious thrashing with no problems so far.

Get the M7 wheel. It's 3/8" but strong.
Proper rims suck. Get one of the Odyssey rims or a Rhynolite.

if you MUST have a big axle hub, go Gsport - DT spokes - Haz lite with a gland hubgaurd. youll never break a spoke again.
or get the M7 wheel, pretty much the same thing but 3/8" and a little lighter.

Pretty much what i said.
And isn't GSport's axle stronger then a normal 3/8"?

Yes, much stronger.

I would strongly suggest shying away from the macneil hub. The hub gets bunged up and your spokes get wedged in there. Just get an odyssey or something simple and cheap. I've been running a gold proper rim laced to a geisha for a while now any it's holding up great. Getting quality spokes like DT swiss is just as important or more important than the rim itself.
