Mountain Biking - Iguana discs or no discs, that's the question (HELP!)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I finally chose the bike I'll buy (giant iguana) but I have a few more technical questions.
Both models retail 799$ CAN but one version has discs brakes and I was wondering where's the catch.

Disc brakes on a relatively low-priced bike
I wasn't looking for that kind of brakes either.http://forums.montrealracing.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif

There are others differences as well:

No disc model has:
Fork: Rock Shock Pilot C w/alloy steer tube, 3.1" travel
27 speed

Disc model has:
Fork: Manitou Six Sport, 3.1" travel
24 speed

which one would be the logical choice for the same price??
which fork is better??

thanks

here are the full specs.

I think the general consensous is that Hayes mechs blow. I'd get the Iguana with the 9 ring cog. Learn how to adjust your v-brakes properly and you should have no problems.
The different forks are comparable, no huge difference one way or the other.

I don't get why a company takes care of placing 2 different fork on the same bike. especially if they're similar.

more help pliz !

Ive got the Giant iguana ( without discs). Its a great bike even though i have put alot of upgrades on it. The difference between the 2 bikes is that the disc model has slightly downgraded components. I went with the v brake version mainly because of this. But in the future you can upgrade to discs if you like.

Never had a chance to try the RS Pilot, but the Manitou Six is too soft for my taste. I've heard more than one person say you're better off having v-brakes than the Hayes mechanical discs.

The reason they spec the same bike with two different forks is to keep the price the same when installing the more expensive disc brakes. That is also why the disc model is eight speed, cheaper shifters and drivetrain. This was done because there is a demand in that price range for a disc brake bike otherwise they would just sell the Ranier.
I sell Giant and like the non-disc Iguana better. Much better parts spec and if you are doing the kind of riding that needs disc brakes there are other bikes that are better. The Hayes mech. are only average, Avids are much better.
